I studied for the WSET Diploma with PhillyWine (and 20 years ago also did my WSET Advanced Certificate with them). They are one of the few schools in the US accredited to teach the WSET Diploma, which is the highest level WSET course. The instructors are very knowledgeable, and they structure the course well, between online theory and in-person tasting classes. A good tempo is maintained, and they actively prompt you to work on weekly problems, when to start revising, etc., in order not to fall behind. I valued their sage advice on the WSET style of examinations - theory and tasting - and how to approach those problems. I think their high pass rate is testimony to the style of their teaching. While not everyone is enamoured with the WSET syllabus or style of learning, it is one of the two major accreditation bodies with true global presence, so it has to be doing something right. While there are other paths to follow in wine education, if you want to go the WSET route, I think PhillyWine is an excellent school to...
Read moreI highly recommend PhillyWine to anyone looking to have fun learning about wine, challenge themselves with WSET certifications, or build wine related skills for their career.
Wine was an interest of mine and after reading several books, I thought it would be fun to take a more formal wine study course. I found PhillyWine and quickly signed up for WSET’s Level 2. That course whetted my appetite and I have now worked my way through the WSET Diploma, all with PhillyWine.
The PhillyWine team worked to help me succeed in my studies. Living outside of the city, a hybrid option for classes and tastings was crucial for me. PhillyWine provided options for virtual classes that were recorded and could be watched later. Instructors were available to answer questions and prompt in responding to emails. In-person tastings on weekends were also arranged to help prepare for...
Read moreI’m passionate about wine and looking to earn a wine certification—not to work in restaurants, but simply to deepen my knowledge. I’ve been to a wine school before. However, my experience with them was disappointing.
I went to their their listed office location last week. I was a bit surprised, since it's the building that houses the Fitler Club and Aramark. The lady at the front desk was nice, but clearly had no idea about what I was asking about. This raised a major red flag, especially since I their online reviews seemed to have been posted around the same time, which feels suspicious.
The kicker is, I've been to this school before! The site was different, and so was the location. I had a great time before, but this comes across as spammy and untrustworthy and confusing If you’re serious about wine education, I’d recommend being cautious and...
