This review does not reflect on their ability to fix a computer problem but their lack of ability to communicate delays.
This would have been a 3 star review but after getting home after all this: my windows profile had been corrupted (spent 3 hours trying to figure out on my own) Idk if they only got to the login screen and called it good or what. But after over a week in the shop, I expect my computer to run effortlessly
I unfortunately cannot recommend these guys
I dropped my computer off Wednesday after calling around multiple shops and these guys quoted me 1-2 days to diagnose.
Sweet. 2 days go by and no update in ticket or email.
Wait till Saturday (3 days later) and call in requesting an update. The tech Alexander picked up and let me know he was actively working on it and we had a good back n forth.
Motherboard was out, new one from Amazon by Monday. Computer back within the first part of the week
Sweet.
No word from anyone Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. No update email or ticket.
Thursday rolls around and I call again looking for an update.
The wrong motherboard had been sent Monday. Then it's replacement had been delayed and it should be there tomorrow (Friday).
All this would be no big deal if it was actually communicated. But being left in the dark on multiple delays and having to call them any time they missed a...
Read moreI would give zero stars if I could to Pleasanton Computer Repair (PCR). I brought my laptop here because my teen accidently spilled water on the keys. We completed all the forms and paid the fees to diagnose the problem but PCR just made us wait for over a week to tell us whether it could be repaired or not. Initially they said yes and they will let us know once the parts arrive so we waited again. In that time, we had to travel due to an emergency but were hopeful that the laptop would be ready upon our return. So we called them (almost over a month after keeping our laptop here). In all this time, we never received a proactive communication from them. The response time cannot be so poor if you charge fees to diagnose the issue. We were absolutely convinced that the damage was irreversible. PCR basically told us that certain parts were now discontinued from manufacturer so it could not be repaired. This information was not correct.
We should have called the manufacturer first--that was our mistake. Anyways, the manufacturer told us that they never discontinue parts so when we shipped the laptop to the manufacturer, it was repaired and returned in a week.
If you own expensive laptops this is not a...
Read moreAfter a few e-mails with Gabe, I spoke with Tim on the phone and brought in my 10yo 27" iMac (Late 2009) today. The last system update from Apple took over an hour and I was getting read failures copying some files - it's time to retire the 2010 2TB Hitachi HDD and replace it with a 1 TB Samsung 570 Evo SSD.
Matt helped me carry the iMac up to the shop this morning. I also mentioned that the upper right hand corner of the screen looks strange. At 5:30, I went to pick up the machine. He had removed some dust from the area and the screen looks great! The 1 hour update/slow-as-molasses boot have been reduced to a 28 second boot time. Looks like I may be able to use this machine for another 5 years after all.
As a EE, I could've done this upgrade myself, but after buying the tools, PCR actually wasn't charging that much more for labor - so I decided to avoid the possibility of dirtying or worse, dropping the glass and let the experienced pro's do the job. I'm very satisfied with the upgrade - I'll be back later to upgrade my PC mobo to Ryzen 9's. Highly recommended. This is the kind of local shop that I'm very...
