Sushi Hanabi — Restaurant in Pleasanton

Cute little place with an impressive menu, including a specials menu of fish flown in internationally. We've been here a few times and enjoyed their okonomiyaki (which is impossible to find in the tri valley area) and special rolls. Most recently, Husband and I shared hamachi toro from the specials menu (sooooo good!!!) and the signature sushi set for 2. The sushi set comes with miso soup (very gentle flavor...perhaps white miso?) and salad (really liked the tangy dressing), 6 pieces chef's choice sashimi, 6 pieces chef's choice nigiri, and you pick 2 rolls from their popular rolls menu. Rolls were good, but we thought their sashimi and nigiri were Hanabi's strength. When realized they had brought us one of the wrong rolls, they made us the right one and let us take the wrong one home. Excellent customer service!!

This place is very popular and often has a wait. There is a small parking lot, but we've never had trouble getting a spot. I've only ever seen 2 wait staff working at a time, so service can feel a little slow compared to other places, but it's really...

Left a more detailed review on yelp but main issue was being argued with over what I did and didn’t order chicken karaage and veggie tempura mix do not remotely sound the same I never order tempura so when the waitress wants to argue with me over what I said I just said okay I’ll take it not trying to get even worse service before the rest of my food comes out. Finally get the chicken we ordered and my date takes a bite it’s frozen and raw in the middle do they microwave it?? That’s awful.

Get the chicken back after they reheat it or get a new batch. The waitress wants to watch me take a bite after she just brought it out of the kitchen I say no it’s okay I trust you.. I wait 5 minutes and it’s still scolding hot. She wanted to watch me burn because I just wanted my food cooked thoroughly. No apologies from her just comes back and says if you pour your soju in the beer it’s very cool like okay thanks for the drinking tip.

Wont be coming back here there’s way too many good options in the area to even consider giving this place...

Not the best Japanese food I've had… disappointing I've heard so many great things about it.... I think maybe If they taught the servers to talk a little bit more about the product the guests would be happier… we were looking for specific things and we were told everything is good, which is not what you say....Just pick something???? Sorry new place wanted a little help....didn't get it.... Teach your servers to learn your food, So they can answer questions and give people good choices....You are missing good opportunities to give people what they want.... We don't care what the price is, if we get what we want....We've been looking for a new Japanese restaurant that we would frequent weekly… But ... Every roll we tried, was mostly white rice and sauce....not too much flavor…All tasted the same...We won't be back.... Pretty sad heard so many good things about it ....but not...
