Menards — Local services in Portage

I came here to pick up a few pieces of lumber for a set of stairs I was building. I purchased the lumber and went back to their lumber shed to pick it up. An employee directed me to the appropriate sizes upstairs. I went upstairs and rifled for about half an hour to find straight 2x4s, no biggie its my fault I'm picky. I then went to the 2x6s and there wasn't a single board that didn't need major work to be remotely usable. I asked an employee if they had some more (most of it was wet but it rained the night before) and he said no, so I tried to leave and change my lumber order. The gate guards told me I can't leave if I don't have whats on the receipt, so I was put back in line, and went to the building supply counter to change my order. They told me to go to the front of the store to have the difference refunded and have the order changed, the front of the store said building supplies had to do that. I got tired of being told to go to the other end of the store to fix it, and put the wood back and tried to leave again, security said they had to search my vehicle to allow me to leave. I went to the front desk and got my refund and left. This whole scenario was absolutely ridiculous, I was literally buying 8 pieces of wood, and had i not been honest and told them that I was going to grab another dimension the whole masquerade of inefficiency wouldn't have happened. If you need lumber for a project don't waste your time...

I have been looking for pergolas for a couple of months now. I have had different contractors come to my home to provide estimates and to be honest I was given so many different "recommendations" that my head started to spin. So I went online to do my own research. I finally found one that fit my requirements at Menards. I decided to go to the Menards in Portage, IN. I was fortunate enough to find Will. He has gone above and beyond to help me get some additional options I wanted. He immediately returned my calls and found information for me that I dont believe he really needed to do. He is AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend this Menards, but more specifically if you need to purchase anything in building products, ask for Will.

Horrible customer service, my husband and I came in for a few things and to walk around to compare and price for my coming garden this year. A forklift driver almost hit a group of people with young children and ourselves, i turn to the older gentleman on the forklift and scolding him because he did not have anyone helping him to guide for safety or roped off the area that he was working in. He was so busy trying to pay attention to what we was doing and playing security guard that he almost caused a major collision.. He got mad and call security to the garden section as we was leaving, we started to walk around just to pick up a few more things just get followed throughout the store by multiple employees. Once we got to the checkout out the young lady had the nastiest attitude because their card machine was not working properly. Do better people are paying their hard earned money to keep that place head above water, treat people with a little more respect. Stop following all the minorities thinking...
