Wonderful north Portland neighborhood record shop superbly curated by the Matts who know choice vinyl in all genres when they see it. This is a comparatively new shop but already with deep strengths in jazz, all varieties of rock, along with super-fine metal, hip-hop, soul, funk, decent international disks, and fabulous budget bins full of everything including great classical albums at ridiculously affordable prices. Too Many Records is aptly named. The place has a great listening station, too, to check out any used disk before you buy. What's not to love?? Stopped by on my way through Portland and glad I did. The owner, Matt, is incredibly welcoming and made my girlfriend and I feel like we had walked into our local record shop. He even gave us local Portland recommendations (including where the best donuts are) which was really appreciated. The store itself is well organized and records are priced fair. It’s clear Matt has taken the ‘all killer, no filler’ approach and there’s plenty of records that you don’t typically see at other record stores. It’s really evident that the shop is owned by someone that was a collector first and understands what a collector wants in a local record shop. Are there ever "too many records?" No, that's not possible. What IS possible is that Too Many Records will have an abundance of the records you've been looking for and there might be too many for your budget, but that's what payday loans are for!
