Overpopulated and underwhelming.
Iām going to start off with the staff really doesnāt care. From the moment you walk in either you are not awkowledged or they stare you down. So creepy. Not everyone is there for a chat but a good morning/evening or a head nod would suffice. I see you everyday! So thatās the staff in a nutshell.
The place is tiny! Donāt be fooled by how small it looks on the outside, because itās even smaller! Good luck trying to get your face machine at you regular gym hours because thereās always a new human popping up that youāve never seen before pretending to work out where you would be sweating.
This encourages you too get creative when it comes to working out at least. Instead of using a machine you can awkwardly stand next to the private workout session that happens Mon-Thursday in the middle of the walking path and try not too pay attention to their class. You could always lift...or not...I donāt lift.
There is a virtual class room you can schedule āprivateā 20-30-40 minute classes which is WOW so cutting edge and high tech. That is, if the scheduling system would hold your classes at the designated time or the projector would work. Haha literally thereās just sounds sometimes and you can help but to feel scammed. When you contact the gym about your issues they completely ignore you until they want to sell you personal training or join them for a night out at Dave and Busters. You donāt even say good morning why would I go out at night with any of you. CREEPS!
And speaking of creeps, they really donāt enforce the āyou canāt get in without a badge (FOB) and if you let someone in without on me there is a feeā. Iāve seen people let others in at 5 am and itās creep hour. The person just waiting in the car for people to show up and get in. Has no one seen the movies? When I emailed about my concerns you know what I got? Bingo, no response but 2 weeks later they emailed me to join their challenge...
Also thereās a 200 dollar cancellation fee that theybtry to make sound like only 50 bucks when you start, but really take you over the coals when you have the audacity to leave the poorly managed, poorly equipped gym that wonāt give you the time of day unless you pay them more. Money...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI retract my 5+star rating. My experience ended up being an extreme disappointment, and costly once thing were made transparent. I did not reread the fine print but apparently ATF have criteria (that are NOT at all shared with you in advance) whether you can participate in a CONTRACTUALLY PAID FOR class. After rearranging my busy schedule I came in one day and was informed that I could no longer keep my routine that prior to that I received no indication that this could happen! NONE! I am not a body builder, and as my initial post (kept below to show that I sincerely WAS happy, resulting in current profound disappointment), my intention was to stay fit through rigorous workouts 3-4 times a week. Never have I experienced such a shock and odd business model where things were so conditional without pure transparency. It is not like attending a Harvard class with obvious expectations of extraordinary success. And, as an academic, Harvard and ANY schooling would provide feedback and warning before kicking you out!
Originally I was pleased to find a local gym that supposedly promoted health and fitness but instead I found a passionate "business" with their own agenda and surprising cliqueiness, and for me, a seemingly random business practice that I cannot imagine being any place else. Quincy YMCA is fantastic , affordable and with a reliably SOLID mission and vision promoting acceptance, tolerance (people with physical disabilities are WELCOME THERE!), mental and physical health... And if you pay for the class you will never be told to leave.
Initial post: Of course the hours are fantastic!! The people who work there are super suburb (to be superlative!!). What I like the most about those employed at ATF is that all are very sincerely "fitness-minded" folks who have a passion for what they chose to do for work. In this context, their genuineness also exudes a very tolerant, nonjudmental and accepting attitude for all fitness levels, stages of motivation for fitness that permits me to be exactly where I am, with available freedom to practice My Best Fitness-Mode at any given time [as long as I am...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a fantastic gym! I started coming here in the summer of 2019, had to leave in 2020 for school, and then came back again in 2021. The gym isn't huge in terms of size but it has all the equipment you could possibly need. There's a good mix of free weights, machines, and a turf area for more functional movements/stretching. There's also a great plate to bar ratio as there never seems to be a deficiency of plates. Other useful equipment include TRX suspensions, plenty of resistance bands, heavy bag for boxing, foam rollers, and a plethora of other items. There's also a good amount of cardio machines that are linked to mini televisions such as treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and stairmasters. The facility is always kept clean and organized including the bathroom/shower area.
The gym is also consistently being upgraded with new equipment and refurnished. It's clear that the owner and staff members take pride in providing the best possible experience for customers. It's great to see the amount of care being put into the facility. Expect to be greeted up front by friendly faces during staffed hours as they are extremely friendly, helpful, caring, and professional. There's definitely a great atmosphere to get your workout done. Although I've never taken any of the classes, I see them going on all the time. The trainers seem knowledgable and everyone appears to be having a good time. The staff members do a great job providing a supportive, comfortable, and motivating environment for customers/clients to reach their fitness goal. Staff members have a genuine passion for fitness and helping others live healthier lives. If you're someone looking for a well-rounded gym and flexible gym, this is the place for you.
Overall, I would highly recommend this gym if you live in Quincy or the general area. The prices are reasonable, it doesn't get too crowded, it's open 24/7, and as an added bonus, there's plenty of parking. I look forward to coming to this gym every day and it has set the standard for how I will choose gyms...
