If you need sportscards, non sports cards, LEGOS or just anything collectible that is sports related, this is the place. You can't miss it. There is so much stuff to sift through that they have stuff displayed outside in the front of the store. The owner Don is incredibly knowledgeable and their prices are extremely competitive (that includes Ebay and Amazon). I have noticed a very small minority of reviews that claim that they were either met with rudeness or felt their collections were not valued adequately. I hate to tell those folks that with the massive changes in the marketplace due to the advent of Ebay and the overproduction of sportscards from the late 80s to the early 90s, prices for many cards have fluctuated and unfortunately, many have lost their value over time. Sometimes it is difficult to accept that your "prized collection" isn't worth as much as you thought it was. However, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy collecting. It shouldn't just be about the money. Sorry for the digression, as for the shop, it has just about everything a collector needs including card supplies as well as some autographed memorabilia. They also cater to every budget including cards for a quarter and some great buys on sportscards including rookies in his unheralded 99 cent boxes. I would definitely recommend that you allocate at least an hour just browsing through all his huge inventory and be prepared to buy something that wasn't on your want list to begin with. Also, if you are into Pokemon or Magic, he has that covered too. I just wish his shop had more room to move around but that is well worth the price to pay to find that special item for your collection. I sincerely hope the shop never closes at least in my lifetime. Well worth a trip if you...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a fair and welcoming place to buy/sell/trade Pokémon cards, beware of DJ’s Sportscards.
The guy working the Pokémon counter was flat-out rude and made it very clear he didn’t care about customers. While I was in the store, I watched him lowball a kid and his mom who had brought in 20+ beautiful cards all of them full arts, SIRs, and a couple masterballs from prismatic. Every card was in sleeves and protectors, and the kid was so excited to trade them in for cards he really wanted.
Here are just a few of the cards: Crispin – 171/131 – SV: Prismatic Evolutions (PRE) Team Rocket’s Proton – 227/182 – SV10: Destined Rivals (DRI) Swoobat – 120/086 – SV: White Flare (WHT) Hop’s Wooloo – 170/159 – SV09: Journey Together (JTG) Exeggutor (Master Ball Pattern) – SV: Prismatic Evolutions (PRE) Glaceon (Master Ball Pattern) – SV: Prismatic Evolutions (PRE)
Instead of being honest, the guy offered them $50 trade-in or $30 cash, for a collection that was worth well over $200. His excuse? “Singles sit for a while.” Thankfully, the mom declined, but the way he spoke down to them was just despicable.
I ended up chatting with them outside and showed them how to look up values on TCG Player, which confirmed what I suspected: they were being ripped off. For a young fan who pulled those cards himself and just wanted something special in return, that kind of treatment is a great way to lose a lifelong customer.
DJ’s should be ashamed. This type of behavior discourages kids, takes advantage of parents, and poisons what should be a fun, welcoming hobby community. There are plenty of other local shops and online options where you’ll be treated fairly and respectfully, this isn’t...
