I was super excited when I found out about Amped coming to Richardson with the low prices and amazing amenities since I knew I was going to have to leave my other gym for membership prices increasing. I had my first lift day 2 of the gym being open and it was hard to find a flow with how busy it was (as expected) but I figured that would die down once the hype of a new gym passed. Something felt off when I first started back and I couldn't put my finger on it but realized that for such a large space and high volume there was not adequate amounts of popular machines especially for how frequent it felt they were breaking. The cleanliness was a joke especially in the Babe Cave, more than once I found chewed gum on the floor, tissues laying around, weights left out when it is so simple to re-rack. No matter what time I went it always felt like peak hours and it would be hard to complete my routine with people constantly laying down their keys or bag and then disappearing for 20 minutes to go chat with friends. Trying to cancel my membership was an absolute nightmare. One of the things I was told when I first signed up was cancellation if necessary would be easy and could be done through the app which was not the case. I emailed the customer help email listed and was told the email I had contacted was not correct but they forwarded it to the proper email for me saying someone would contact me...no one ever did. I had to instant message the instagram account after two weeks of waiting and realizing my payment due date was coming when they finally answered I was given the option to pay for certified mail to cancel or come in and do it. So I made my merry little way up to the gym, unfortunately for me my account was charged the day before so I will be paying another months fee because no one could give me proper answers in time to give the 30 day notice. There were red flags early (like one of the massage chairs being broken the third day being open) but I ignored them hoping I was going to find a new home gym and that since it was all so new would eventually work itself out. There were very few positives for me but one is Jordan who is a personal trainer was incredibly kind and helpful. I also want to shoutout the guy at the front desk (I didn't catch his name) when I did finally get to cancel, extremely kind and felt really bad it took so long for me to get a response for how to cancel and that I would now have to pay another month. So yes the gym is aesthetically pleasing, and has amenities you cannot find at other low cost gyms but it overall was not...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I have been coming to this gym since March-ish and we really like it a lot. The facilities are clean, the equipment is in good shape (and there's a lot to choose from, and multiple options of the really popular stuff) and it has excellent amenities for the price. Whenever something breaks, it's usually fixed within 48 hours. The gym's GM, Adrian, is super nice and VERY smart (he's jacked, but he is much more than a meathead with a certificate like a lot of gym managers... has an actual degree in psychology in addition to multiple training certificates) and really knows his stuff and knows how to make fitness fun and approachable for everyone, regardless of their level of expertise. I really like all of the other trainers and staff members as well. Bernard in particular is super friendly and funny and I had a great experience with him when completing my first eVolt scan/check for asymmetries.
The only real complaint I have is that there's only one set of water fountains in the whole gym. But Amped bought that building from a Gold's so that's kind of just what they're stuck with. Not their fault. As far as gyms go, that being the only real complaint I have is pretty stellar considering I've been a member at gyms with insanely high fees and facilities that are gross and falling apart. They seem to really be staying on top of upgrades to the space.
All in all, the deal is excellent for the price. I am still trying to figure out what the catch is because this is the first truly excellent experience I've ever had at a chain gym that didn't basically require a second mortgage payment. I'm patiently awaiting the cops' arrival at my door, to take me away for committing highway robbery against these nice folks :)
Just a note: this gym's crowd seems to skew young and so there are some issues with the patrons not always having great etiquette. I wish they were a little proactive with managing that but they will put the smackdown on it if you bring it to their attention. Sucks to feel like a Karen for making a complaint but it is what it is. If that kind of thing really bothers you then I would recommend going in early while the broccoli heads and wannabe influencers are still sleeping and sticking to hours when the staff is there to actually enforce the rules. Otherwise you might have someone try to push their pyramid scheme on you or end up in someone's fitness TikTok. I usually go in early and rarely have issues with people and pretty much never have to wait...
Read moreSo I’ve been waiting on mesquite location to open seeing as though that’s the location I signed up for. So for the past couple weeks I’ve been coming to the Richardson location I signed up for the revamped membership so they have allowed me and my guest to come workout. I want all my family and friends to come to amped because I felt it was an awesome gym. Today I came in with my sister and the young man at the front Aiden was the worst, as we stood there waiting to check in he just started at us so I finally was like hello he said if you trying to check in the scan your qr I explained to him I’m from the other location so I do not have one yet, he then told me my guest could not come due to me being from an location that’s not open and hasn’t started I advised we’ve been coming here to that he told me well I don’t know what to tell you , condescending tone and attitude on his face I asked to speak to a manager he then said I’m the only one here so what you want me to do , I told him again I want to speak with someone other than him he calls the lily promoted female manager and she was very understanding and as I’m talking to her on speaker at a distance I asked Aiden can I hold the phone so I can hear and speak with her to that he told me no it’s my phone you can hear her again rude as hell, so as I’m continuing to try to here what the lady on the phone is saying I told her about his attitude and that he should not be at the front he is horrible he pulls the phone to his mouth shaking saying this the 3rd person that’s disrespected me today I’m not about to keep dealing with this keep in mind the front desk person comes in at 8 we walked in at 1030 so I’m 2.5 hours you’ve had issues with that many people I’d say the problem is you he has been the worst part of my experience with amped everyone has been kind and understanding and had enough knowledge about what’s going on the need to fire him in the future I will call before coming because I do not want to deal with him I would’ve paid to easily get a membership today at this location but he didn’t even offer that and by the time the manager offered that I was so out done I left for an hour and a half with hopes I would not have to...
