I've been going to this location for a little over a year now, it has become my go-to place for Taqueria foods, but for the past 6 months as I kept on coming this resturaunt has only become more busy, more expensive, and less friendly.
Every time I come in (evenings usually) its filled to the brim, line to the door, most all seats taken up, loud as hell, once I get to the counter, I'm met with some incredibly high prices. ($30 for 2 small tacos, a torta with fries and a fountain drink.) Prices at this restaurant have went up since last time I visited.
So you can count on a long wait time, to make matters more irritating the cashier never seems happy to see you as they're in a mad dash trying to keep up with all the chaos, as well as the person who brings you your order. The people who walk the food to you usually appear to be in a frantic confusion, and as of very recently (My last visit August 23rd 2025) their order accuracy is falling apart.
I ordered a torta, a taco and fries, while I waited I used the bathroom and threw the recept away thinking I wouldn't need it. (HUGE MISTAKE), I recieved my taco and torta, but no fries to be found! I went and got a server's attention, and she blankly stared at me like I was cursing at her but I was simply asking where my fries were, (she does know English by the way.) She went totally silent and walked away. So I got the attention of the lady who served me about my fries. And she asked me if I had my recipt which I didn't. So she went and HAD to check my order on the computer, at this rate I was getting irritated that she had the suspicion of me lying. As though I'd make it up that I'm owed some french fries.
As she went to go check for proof I ordered these fries, things had went silent so I was frustrated enough to go back to the bathroom and fish out the recept from the trash. Thankfully it was still at the top. (Gross Im aware)
I marched myself over to the counter I was waved away by her with a dismissve (Yeah I checked your order your fries are coming). No apology, or offer to make it right, nothing.
All of this left me in an upset mood at Taqueria Nuevo Leon, but the only thing to make it worse was that the portion of meat in my Torta was unusually small, in past visits, I could expect to see my Torta filled to the brim and spilling with hot Carne Asada, this time, it was a sad, miserable display of meat. Just enough to make it passible nothing more. So I ate my sad little Torta, while waiting on my fries (which would have been nice to eat while having my Torta.)
It is disheartening when one of your favorite resturaunts goes down the toilet in all aspects yet at the same time is more expensive than ever. It makes you feel SCAMMED. Like youve paid extra for less.
All in all, I'm not coming here again for a long time, and never again during the evening. They can't handle it, and the quality and service is just so gone. (Also all toilets were...
Read moreI honestly enjoyed their tacos. My wife and I ordered to-go, but when I entered the restaurant, the music was loud. I can't imagine an enjoyable dine-in experience. I got Carne Asada, Trompo, and Tripa. Carne asada didn't really have flavor, and it's the first I had carne asada with cheese (I think it was mozzarella). The trompo was juicy and crispy. The tripa was slightly crunchy, but not too much, so you'll get more of the intestine taste. Most places I go that have tripa tacos tend to make them really crispy. I really enjoyed this one. I wish they provided more lime. My slices were thin and dry. Salsa verde/rojo weren't spicy at all. Sliced caramelized onions weren't sliced all the way through and had a pool of oil. I'm happy they are willing to offer more salsa on the side with no extra charge. My wife ordered the Gordita Plate. It had three, so she ordered a desebrada, a Carne asada, and a chicken gordita. She liked the gorditas in the order she listed, with desebrada being the most and the chicken being the least, and it was mostly due to flavor. She said that if you plan on ordering this particular item, make sure you have an empty stomach and are very hungry since it nearly put her in a food coma. Overall experience is a 4/5. I'd say to anyone to give this place a shot. I'll definitely come back for the trompo and tripa. Carne asada, I don't think I'll add that to my order next time. I taste more cheese than meat.
EDIT (Feb 2024): My wife and I dined in today. I forgot I had already experienced this place. I ordered the same meats, carne asada, trompo, and tripa. The asada this time was better (after comparing to my review above), and the tripa was still slightly fried but delicious. I also received thicker slices of lime. Music wasn't loud this time, and onions were sliced better. Sauces were still not spicy. My dine-in experience was much better than my to-go experience. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone...
Read moreLast time I was here I ate for lunch an expensive torta, with very little meat, barbacoa, that ended making me sick. I didn’t make a big deal, but I chose not to return. It’s been 6 months and I thought I give them another chance. As I walked in the door at 718am to try their breakfast tacos, I noticed a girl behind the counter picking up lids that either go to drink cups or to go containers. As I approached the counter the girl is still staking them back on the counter and about to put them back in the sleeve. I begin telling, “no pues ya tiralas, ya no sirven, los agaraste del piso.” Which means you should trow those away, another female employee aproches and hears what I’m saying, and she understood what I said. I also repeated what I said. She kinda gives me a what ever smirk and continues doing what she was doing. The girl that was placing the dirty plastic lids back on the counter, does the same and ask me how can I help you. I was going to eat there, but after watching what she did and asked her to throw those way and don’t use them, ignores me. I asked I’m not going to order until you throw those away. They kinda just looked at me and I said to them if I don’t see you throw them away, I will not order and I’m going to tell the health dept. I mean no wonder I got sick from their food last time. With these kind of bad practices it’s not surprising. I use to frequent the one off Buckingham n Jupiter to get tamales. But since they’re prices have gone up I don’t purchase as frequent, and after what I just saw and those girls not taking that seriously, no way I will be eating at your establishments. And yes, maybe the health dept should go and visit your locations now that I witnessed this. Will not be returning, and I caution...
