Sola Salons Carytown — Local services in Richmond

I had never been to a salon before, having always gotten my hair cut at small hometown hair cutteries. I stumbled upon Sola through Gmaps, & it is a conglomerate of individual salons which rent space. I just happened to find Elle Studios directly upstairs to the right, the only place lit. Margaret came right over & spoke to me about services. I had to schedule for a couple days later, but I found out they weren't really open, as it was Monday. Virtually all salons in CaryTown are closed on Mondays, but Elle accommodates schedules. Most Sola salons are individually run (I included a pic of map of businesses in Sola). Elle is unique. The stylists work as a team, sharing space, website/pricing list & services. I knew nothing about coloring, but Margaret walked me through my options, using a coloring sample chart with hair "swatches" We decided to do just around my roots, since my main objective was covering my sparse greys w/natural color. I also got a cut, which we decided on long layers, but just after leaving I can't find any! I was more focused on my bangs, which I had her recut twice. Overall, I was really pleased, especially when she recut my bangs after I paid. It is better to keep adjusting than to have a too short cut you have to grow out! Overall, her knowledge & service were great & outweighed my hesitation over cost (my coloring was roots only, yet way upwards of $65 min all-over coloring suggested...

Wonderful suite of cosmetology professionals. Parking is probably the biggest hassle. There is a relatively long staircase to enter the building but once you hit the entrance floor the signage makes it easy to find your stylist. The pods are on the smaller side (compared to those at Salon Plaza) but it had a nice design and they have plenty of chairs for you to wait for your appointed time.
