I was an original member of this gym when they first opened...it was seriously my second home, the staff was amazing like the true OG staff, whom I know were mainly all from other clubs and some new hires that transferred or left after the firstround of new mgmt, that was sad, although I've noticed a couple still there recently..anyway that was also a lifetime ago... As of recently, I have rejoined this gym. Even though I now live 400 miles away, I find the value of this gym and their amenities well worth paying the monthly fee for having the ability to come here when I am visiting for work. It makes most sense to me instead of a weekly pass every time. I can say my cancellation process was pretty cut and dry though back a couple years ago bevause I moved and followed the guidelines of cancelling when you move far enough away. Although I've heard the complaints and it is cumbersome but a lot of gyms have the disclosure of 30 days and usually one more month of being charged, I promise you getting out of anytime fitness is much more difficult when they are independently owned especially. The showers always have and always will be Edges biggest downfall. Here and at Shelby, I was here today, just another almost 30 minutes of waiting for it to heat up. I literally turn a shower on and go sit in the sauna for 15 minutes to give it time, I'm not going to sit there and be cold...we all know there are PLENTY of membership funds to install a few more hot water heaters....it has nothing to do with anything less or more, invest. While you're at it, the rope attachments on the floor, are we serious? Are these the very original ones? I'll make sure to bring my own next time as yours are literally falling apart. I didn't anticipate to rejoin and see it not being maintained like the gym it opened as, granted I rejoined at Shelby because of my location at the time but this is the one I will choose to frequent out of the two. The sauna is always working when I'm there, along with everything else. And it is still clean and the showers are still clean and that was always one of my most appreciated qualities they have. Thank you for keeping that up. I rarely encounter rude staff, maybe just oblivious, but they're kids mostly and of a different generation...if you need something, just make it known. I've come at all times of the day, you just have to be able to adapt what you lift if it's busier, most workouts have an alternative. If you need the true old school lifts and you have to be totally dedicated to that exercise in that form, you're at the wrong gym. The shakes are always my favorite exit treat too, BUT y'all need to start taking cash again ...what is that other than...
Read moreI want to start by saying the facilities and the gym atmosphere are fine, this review is due to the customer service and backend paperwork experience.
TLDR: DO NOT listen to what anyone on the desk side tells you that you are signing. Make sure to read it yourself, request a print out and take it home if you have to.
I was told I was signing up for a non contract membership that could be canceled or frozen at any time. Not only was my membership contracted, it also was intelligible to even be frozen as advertised.
I used this gym due to its convenient location to my home, I lived 3 minutes away. Now, I've moved and there's no longer a convenient location for me to go to. I went to switch to a new gym, that was 3 minutes away from my new residence, only to find out that I still have to make 12 more months of payments because my membership was contracted despite what I was told.
They do have a clause to allow a contract to be broken, but you have to live 15 or 25 miles away from the nearest Edge Fitness. I'm not sure which one as I was told both throughout my process of trying to cancel via email, call center, and in person.
Their call center is another point of criticism I have. They outsource their calls to a call center that services multiple gyms. Meaning they're not up to date on this specific gyms policies and can provide outdated or incorrect information. I wouldn't suggest dealing with the email support or call center support team if you can avoid it. Just go in person and see someone on the desk side. You'll get a much more accurate and concise answer that way.
So now I'm stuck with this membership I won't be able to use frequently for another year with no path of recourse because I was lied to when signing up. I'm really disappointed because of the no contract membership and the ability to freeze your payments were the only reason I felt comfortable signing up for this gym the same day I sat down with someone to get more information on the gym.
All that being said, if you make sure to understand what you're signing or have a desk side employee who actually knows what they're talking about and are honest, then you should enjoy this gym. Just use extra caution before...
Read moreBeaware before you sign a contract with Edge Fitness. They will make sure to charge you 12 months fee ($300-$400) for the services that wont be provided to you for cancelling the membership.
*Yes, Iâve read the contract prior to signing that the only exceptions without the penalty are relocation of 25 miles or greater or receiving a doctorâs note.
2 Reasons why this contract should be amended.
1)Doctors are busy curing the patients whom maybe very ill or close to death, im not going to schedule an appointment just to bother them how psychologically challenging it is for me to go to the gym amidst this rise of COVID cases when their focus/skills are vital to be on the real patients.
2)This contract penalty wave of doctors notes and 25 miles have been written far before 2020 (Pre-Global Pandemic). In other words, the verbiage on here can be significantly outdated and may require a revisit due to not having COVID included in their contract scenario.
For whom it may concern, you need to call the gym every month to keep your membership frozen, because quote on quote the customer service manager had said âwe dont have enough people to manager keeping customers account frozen each monthâ To this I replied, âwell keep the accounts frozen unless the customers call you to unfreeze the accountâ. Then the manager implied âwho are you to tell me what to do, youâre just a customerâ Iâm not changing the policy just for you. (so here I am, writing in the public so that I can speak on behalf of other people who are thinking the same)
In short, Edge Fitness does not appreciate hearing from the customers in the world where the businesses are growing to be customer centered. Edge Fitness needs to reconsider its contracts or provide flexibility or hear out customersâ feedback. My pre-pandemic experience with Edge was 5/5 stars, today it is worse than the...
