Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial — Local services in Rochester

Another trip to Mayo Clinic in Rochester... But we had our granddaughters with us this time! We had some time kill so I brought them to the incredible Veterans Memorial just down from Mayo Clinic in Soldiers Field area. The girls are only 5 & 8 yrs old and they still enjoyed it. I am retired Air Force and it was an honor to try to explain to them what the gorgeous engraved murals depicted. The life sized statue displays were really impacting and I think they could get the feel for it. Then I showed them all the names of those honorable service members who never came back to their families. Their Father is also in the military. The unbelievable precision in the construction of this Memorial is mind boggling. There is a small space between each piece of of granite. As one of my photos show, looking in that space exactly lines up with the flag pole! There are so many other impressive things to experience but you should come see it for yourself. Memorial Park honoring the brave, the defenders of our freedom and those who gave the greatest sacrifice-their lives. Beautiful granite wall honoring the names of local men and women who served, flags of the different branches, statues depicting their service and actual military artillery. The surrounding park offers plenty of opening space, two play areas, plenty of picnic benches and park shelters, tennis courts, baseball field, dirt running track and public bathrooms. If we could truly honor our vets with more than a statue. Finally after decades we have a administration that actually covers thier battle scars and toxic poisoning of battle. Rambo could have virtually been based on the real treatment of Veterans in Eochester. Ant back back gets you accounted and locked up for a year for returning here looking like a homeless person traveling.
