I had high hopes for this nail salon when my regular technician, Kevin at Polish Nails located at 149 Rollins Ave, Rockville, MD 20852, was not working the day I needed service. Unfortunately, my decision to give Nails by Sean a chance turned out to be far from the best.
Peter was the technician assigned to do my nails, and while he displayed professionalism when I called for an appointment and upon arrival, my overall experience was marred by the GelX nails application. I requested GelX almond nails and a gel pedicure. The pedicure, despite a minor issue with cuticles being cut too close and bleeding, was satisfactory.
However, my nails are a different story. I became concerned when Peter deviated from the standard GelX process. Instead of using a brush to apply the bead of clear gel onto the nail, he opted to dip the nail into the gel primer container, smush it onto the nail with his finger, and then cure it under the LED lamp. This unconventional technique left me skeptical, and my concerns were validated when the nails started popping off.
I had the set done on Thursday, December 28, 2023, and by Saturday, December 30, the right thumb nail had already come off. Despite returning to the salon for a fix, the issues persisted. On Sunday, December 31, my left middle finger nail popped off. Frustrated, I had to glue it back on myself. Today, January 2, while doing a simple task of grabbing clothes from the dryer, my left pinky nail fell off. This is unacceptable, considering the $120 I spent on the set of GelX nails and gel pedicure.
I contemplated returning to the salon to request a new set by a different technician, but my lack of confidence in their ability to address the issue and honor my request deterred me. I am deeply disappointed with the quality of the nail service. I find it regrettable to write a less-than-positive review, but the circumstances warrant it.
I do appreciate the decent job Peter did on the gel pedicure, even though there was an issue with the cuticles. However, the overall experience has left me with no intention of returning to this salon unless I am desperate for a gel pedicure...
Read moreThis is the only nail salon I have been to that I would give a five- star rating. I’ve been to plenty 4 or 4.5 star places, but Sean and his team regularly go above and beyond. My mom introduced me to Nails by Sean about a year ago and I’ve coming here regularly ever since. I see Sean regularly, but as far as I can tell, every staff member has their own devoted clientele for whom they ask by name when they call ahead to book appointments. You can absolutely walk in, but I recommend calling.
Here’s what I live about this place: 1) great pricing; 2) excellent quality and craftsmanship; 3) kind people; 4) clean, pleasant, relaxing environment; 5) all the great/cool stuff you want for your nails, including custom art; and 6) super flexible and accommodating team of professionals.
I’m a busy, full time working mom of two very little boys. When I walk in (every two weeks), I can plop down, and read my latest book, and relax while my nails/skin are refreshed. There’s no pressure to talk if I’m really engrossed in what I’m reading, but the staff is friendly and affable and clearly have plenty of clients they know well and catch up with during appointments.
I like acrylics or SNS with tips. While I personally love a classic red nail— and I don’t really deviate from that— I’ve seen Sean and team do all sorts of gorgeous work on the other folks who come in. Someone did like a pink ombré the other day - I think with gel- it was gorgeous! Also, Sean actually cares about your experience. He pays attention to your nails and listens to what you need and want. If something looks even a little bit off to him, he immediately fixes it. He never rushes me and he makes sure my nails look fabulous when I leave.
I love that there is a Starbucks and lots of excellent food options right next door so you can get your nails done, grab food/coffee and be on your way. There’s also good shopping in general and a grocery/market in the same complex. It’s all just so convenient.
These are top notch professionals who also happen to be good people. Cannot...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into the nail salon, I was impressed by the bright, clean, and well-organized space. All the equipment looked well-maintained — from the new massage chairs to the nail workstations and seating. The nail technician, Hannah, was friendly and attentive, really taking the time to listen to my needs. When I arrived, there were three technicians working, and the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming — a refreshing change from some of the more factory-like nail salons.
You can often tell when an owner truly cares about their business through the little details. This salon has real indoor plants, a selection of magazines, and even water fountains — thoughtful touches that enhance the overall experience. I also noticed a client receiving a foot wax treatment using a unique steam-like tool on her calf, something I hadn’t seen before, which was quite interesting.
The ambiance of the salon is peaceful and relaxing. Soft background music plays throughout, and even when the technicians chat among themselves, it’s never noisy or distracting, unlike in some other places. One standout feature is their built-in nail drying area — both convenient and something I haven’t seen at other salons.
I’m very satisfied with the results of my basic manicure and pedicure. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high-quality service and attention to detail. I would highly recommend this nail salon — it’s truly...
