This restaurant is really not full service restaurant. It is for take out and delivery. if you are Five stars giver like the taste of food and gave 5 stars. That is ok. But if you think of clean, i mean just clean, they should not get a star, sorry. Please don't look around when you walk in to the store, just take a breath in., what did you really smell. you should smell yum smell because food is good, but you don't smell it. you will smell sewer. Ok about food, There is a lot of restaurant in Rockville, especially Chinese restaurant. They all have a little different taste but most popular dishes are very similar. So i will say Banana Leaves did not have a great taste but more sodium. Let's talk about portion of the food. They raise the price almost a year, first three months they gave better than before but about six months they are back to normal, now their portion is less. you can get a lot better taste in Joe's noddle and other Chinese restaurant and cheaper and more portion and cleaner than Banana leaves. you will not smell sewer when you wait or pick up the food at other restaurant, but you don't understand if you get it delivery. You can find other reviewer said how dirty the Banana leaves that what they...
Read moreThe previous posted seem conflicting, so I will try to provide an honest assessment of Banana Leaves, since I think they deserve it. The main thing about this place is that it has an impressive array of dishes, far beyond your standard Asian takeaway. Most importantly, they have a number of Singaporean-Malaysian and Indonesian dishes, which are hard to find and I love (having been there and realized how amazing they are). For example, they do a very good Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice), and Roti Canai (pancakes with curried veggies [appetizer]). They also have a number of Thai dishes which are good. I haven’t really had their Chinese dishes, so I can’t speak to those, but with my job having recently moved to the area, this has become my go-to place for takeaway lunch. I’m not entirely sure why people complained previously about portion size – the amount of food they give seems pretty standard to other...
Read moreGood food, but not great. My wife and I ate here on a Thursday night. We decided to walk in to order since we saw it doing our weekly shopping. The inside is small so don't expect to eat inside, but around the corner there are a few outdoor seating areas. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken. It was good, but there were subtle hints of taste of remnants from the what I'm guessing were previous Chinese food orders. It tasted a bit like cornstarch and such which I guessing was left over from the tso or sesame chicken that were made in the wok. Don't get me wrong, it had a good taste, it was prepared well, but it wasn't great. My wife got the Thai chicken fried rice. It's taste was lacking. Again, it had subtle hints of taste from what we can only guess we're the last orders made with that cooking equipment. All in all, I would go back here, but only for lunch or if I had a coupon. I wouldn't pay full price for this...
