Went in to purchase two new pairs of shoes and check out the new mall location that replaced the McCandless store. No matter how nice and new a store looks, if the experience isn't good, the rest is irrelevant. The athletic shoe section is slightly larger here than the one at the previous McCandless location, but somehow seems to have less in stock?
After walking almost the entire length of the shoe section before even being greeted, I was approached by a sales rep. I asked about two different pairs of shoes and the employee said we don't have them available but you can order them online. Okay, fine. I still wanted to try them on and I was willing to go with a different colors. The rep didn't offer either option to me, I had to tell them. It's not my job to take the steps to sell the shoes to myself. At least try?
They have a new process where they check you in and enter your name into some type of handheld device. After doing so, the sales rep told me someone would be out with the shoes shortly. My sales rep then walked off to talk to someone else. After several minutes, another employee came out, walked past me, then handed the shoes to the original employee who had initially checked me in. The sales rep then came over to me, handed the shoes to me, and then walked away to talk to someone else who didn't even appear to be buying anything. Why did you even need to get my name? It wasn't used at any stage. This odd new check-in process felt needlessly inefficent and kind of impersonal.
I tried the shoes and didn't like the fit, but I didn't see my sales rep around to ask the questions I wanted to. While I was waiting for him to return, I was looking at other options. When I realized the rep was back, they were talking to someone again. I looked around and there were no other sales reps that I could ask for help. After standing there for a few more minutes, I just put the shoes back in the box and left. I was there ready to give you guys $300 for some new shoes but no one seemed interested in making that happen.
I shopped at the McCandless store before it moved to the mall for many years and I got excellent service there 99% of the time. You were almost always greeted immediately walking in the door. You couldn't go more than a few feet without a friendly employee asking if you needed help finding something. Definitely not the case here. This new store seems overly spacious and kind of soulless. DSG might need to rethink this new concept or staff it differently. Such a strange and...

If you want to see the ultimate in what Dicks has to offer, this is the location to go to! Having a couple of floors, I can honestly say that I don’t believe there is anything they did not have. Large varieties of everything and the displays were amazing.!
You want to talk about being able to try things out, there is a rock climbing wall to try out your new gear that you’re looking to buy. There is an entire sports field with track just outside to the left.
The most amazing thing going on at this Dicks currently is what we drove there for. The Paul Skenes rookie card that is on display! They have designated an entire space that surrounds this card. Everything around it has to do with that card, large photos of him wearing the jersey Patch that is on this card. I just can’t say enough about this display that my husband and son really love they got to experience together.
What is also impressive is the mini museum they have just on the other side. They have signed jerseys that are hung, old trading cards, new trading cards…even a Pokémon section!
If there’s anything about this place, I can change is the fact that it felt like there was nobody working. We weren’t greeted when we came in, nobody asked us if we needed any help with anything. Very quiet.
Other than that, I would highly recommend anybody coming here just to check this place out whether you’re buying anything or not. It is definitely something to see!!!
