I agree with most of the reviews on here as far as the meats and German food especially the sausages and cold cuts, I've been going here for a very long time 30 years. But today I felt really disappointed with how I was treated by the staff and owner. I got to the store at 1:45 pm. The store closed at 2pm. When I got there the two people were cleaning out the shelves and meat slicer had been cleaned completely. No cold cuts it fresh sausages were in the case. The one lady asked me if I wanted anything. I said yes some German bologna and some ham. She said sorry but the slicer is not usable now. We just cleaned it. She offered me a hunk of it and a hunk of ham. I said how am I going to slice it? She said she had no idea. š¤·š»āāļø in other words it wasn't her problem, these people know me. The owner walked by and caught the whole thing and kept walking away minding his own business. I was really surprised that I was being treated this way. A long time customer. They were supposed to be closed at 2 pm not 1:45 pm. Why couldn't they wait until 2pm to close everything up and clean up then? I walked out without any further discussion after the lady said you can come back tomorrow. I live 20 minutes away. I am not going to go home and back another 40 minutes out of my way because the store decided to close 15 minutes earlier than posted! I'm not ever going back. The products are excellent but the customer service is terrible and I have to say I've always felt like they acted like they were doing me a favor went going there. Very disappointed that I was not able to get the product and service despite their sign saying "OPEN" and by the way they've recently cut their hours back to 2pm several days a week. Do I made it a point to get there...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest German deli Iāve ever visited. The quality of their food is A+. A little pricey but Iāve never been disappointed. They are exclusively used by the German embassy in Washington DC. That says it all!
The counter people always go out of their way to help you decide what you want to try. They will offer their opinions and often have samples on the counter top. Theyāve also sliced me samples when Iām trying something for the first time. Just like the deliās did 60 years ago, when I was a kid.
Make sure you check out their times of day , and days of week theyāre open. Itās an old time deli so its style is a little quirky;-).
Try it out. Youāll have lots of fun, but itās not easily found. I went by it twice! Once in each direction, before I saw their sign on the side of Old Philadelphia Road:-( As good as their meats are, they should have a 30ā X 40ā neon sign out front, rather than the 3ā X 2ā one thatās next to their 10ā...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBinkert's is a treasure - meats and cold cuts that adhere to the traditions of a German Master Butcher. Traditional stores like this are even disappearing in Germany, replaced by supermarkets, and we are unbelievably lucky to have Binkert's in the Baltimore area.
I'm a big fan of Binkert's sausages, especially their nürnberger bratwurst and bauernwurst, oh, and don't forget the frankfurters and käsekrainer and landjäger and leberwurst. Their bacon is amazing, both for just cooking and eating, or even better as an ingredient (German potato salad, or the most stellar BLT ever). Their smoked pork chops make a gorgeous centerpiece to dinner. You really can't go wrong.
If you are anywhere near Binkert's, toss a cooler in the car and don't miss the chance to stop by. In years of dedicated searching in many places in the USA, I have found no other place like it for authentic German meats...
