How do we love Roxbury Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry? Let me count the waysâŚ
Just like the day I was heartbroken when the time had come for my kids to leave their loving preschool and teachers, I know the day will also inevitably come when we will forever be done with braces and bracket and wire adjustments and 4-6 week check-ups. Ugh. I canât even bear to think of that day :(
Roxbury Smiles peeps, you are so amazing. From Sherry and the front desk girls who are always so helpful when I call to schedule (or reschedule) an appointment, or to ask some crazy, cockamamie questions about billingâŚ. to the dental team, including the hygienists who are always so sweet and encouraging⌠(Erica, my girls love you!!)⌠to our new orthodontist, Dr. Liz, and the orthodontic assistants (Jenny, Sabrina, Autumn and Debbie)⌠You are ALL so incredibly kind and patient and gentle and we love that you always greet us with a warm smile. We honestly feel like we are visiting family every time we see you.
Two notable mention moments I will personally never, ever forget⌠Moments when I truly knew how much you guys truly care:
There was a Saturday morning not that long ago when one of our kids had a wire come off a front tooth bracket causing her tooth to start shifting. I called and left a pathetically panicked message and within minutes, I received a call from Debbie. I was embarrassed and apologized for calling so early on a Saturday morning but Debbie, as kind as always, assured me it was fine and no trouble at all. She said âAutumn is at the office this morning catching up on some things⌠why donât you run over?â And we did. In our pajamas and messy bed heads. (Also very embarrassing!) We were the only ones there and Autumn greeted us with her usual warm smile. Again, I apologized for the trouble, but like Debbie, she also assured me it was fine. She immediately fixed my daughterâs bracket, reinforcing it with a stronger wire so the issue would never happen again. (And it never did!) Autumn and Debbie, you saved the day.
My second notable mention â one that still makes me tear up each time I think of it â was the day we recently took our youngest to an oral surgeon to have four molars extracted. I texted Debbie with some questions as I sat, hysterical, in the oral surgeonâs waiting room. I was crying, freaking out, terrified of the IV sedation my daughter was about to receive and all the pain sheâd have afterwords. Within seconds, my phone started ringing (just as my daughter was being escorted into the operating room). It was Debbie and Autumn and they had me on speakerphone. They calmly reassured me that all was going to be fine. I cried with them on the phone, and laughed, and they instantly made me feel better. I will never ever forget that.
In short, Roxbury Smiles, you are la crème de la crème and our family couldnât love or appreciate you any more than we already do. You ALL always go above and beyond and always WAY EXCEED our expectations and we freaking...
Read moreBeware of the major lack of transparency in billing and insurance acceptance here. I wish someone had shared this before my appointment.
Iâm very disappointed in this officeâs billing practices and lack of transparency. This is not the first time Iâve had a billing issue here. Previously, I was surprised with a large bill after learningâonly after the factâthat the office had stopped accepting Delta Dental PPO. I never received a notice that they said was sent, because ALL of my children had different, incorrectly spelled addresses on file, so I was unaware that my insurance was no longer accepted. That bill should never have existedâespecially since our prior visits were fully covered under the PPO. While they did reduce the charges, I still paid a significant amount out of pocket for something that wouldâve been completely covered.
Fast forward to our most recent visit: I now have Aetna and, understandably cautious from past experience, I asked the office about my coverage before making the appointments. They provided me with a list of procedure codes sent by the insurance company, but I didnât fully understand them. So, the day before our appointments, I called the insurance company to confirm coverage and costs. While I was on the line, an Aetna representative placed a separate outbound call to the dental office and confirmedâon a recorded lineâthat they would be billing $74 for the cleaning (of which insurance would cover $34) and $52 for the exam (of which insurance would cover $37). Based on this clear breakdown, I agreed to the visit, expecting to owe about $55 per child out of pocket.
Despite that confirmation, the office later submitted charges of $90 for the cleaning and $81 for the exam, increasing my out-of-pocket cost by about $45 per child. When I questioned the discrepancy, I was told their rates âchanged in May.â But the confirmation call occurred on July 9, and the appointments were on July 10ânot even 24 hours later. If prices had changed, that should have been communicated during the confirmationâespecially on a recorded call with my insurance.
The insurance company is now pulling the recording of the call for review. Regardless of how this is resolved, I feel obligated to share this experience. I strongly urge others to request all costs IN WRITING ahead of time and be extremely cautious about billing...
Read moreI wasnât going to write a review , but after speaking with the manager about my concerns and being totally brushed off here we go. I took my 23 month old here and the first time I brought her, she didnât cry much so it was smoother. The dentist told me she couldnât fill a cavity that formed from a tooth deformation bc my daughter was still too young and moved around too much. Okay no problem.
I bring her yesterday and the dentist comes in, doesnât try to make my daughter comfortable at all before having me put her down on my lap to examine her mouth. I had to tell my daughter to wave hi to her which she did, other than that zero interaction. My daughter was crying and wiggling all over trying to escape , understandably at 23 months. The dentist was very short with me and kept huffing and puffing and making faces that my daughter wasnât sitting still. (Keep I mind I was holding both of her arms) She was annoyed that bc I picked her up right after work and daycare and went straight there (as Iâm a full time working mom) that she had food in her teeth. She cleaned a little, put a little bit of fluoride on and said okay we can check again in three months, she moves too much.
I was like okay âŚâŚI know it was hard to see bc she was moving but did you see anything at all? (She examined for at-least 2-3 minutes) And she then told me her evaluation after I had to ask. Without asking, she was about to walk out.
I asked her around what age do MOST kids start to calm down in order to fill the cavity. She gave me a look and went âidk most two year olds are calm and lay down perfectly still for me to examine.â
My daughter is very social and calms down easily. I feel like if the dentist took five minutes to introduce herself and talk to my child to make her comfortable, it would have been smoother. My child is used to us brushing her teeth 2x a day, sometimes she cries most times she doesnât. It felt very rushed, rude , and impersonal.
I called and told all of this to the manager and she goes âsorry, thanks for your feedbackâ and hangs up
How is this an office that specializes in peds...
