My wife and I have climbed at several gyms across the country and we absolutely love Contact above all the rest. The gym is always immaculate, the pads are well maintained, they have the best route setters, the bathrooms are clean, they have showers with towels, and the upstairs has a full gym with cardio, weights, moon board, and spray wall. The staff are friendly and go above and beyond to be helpful. We have five kids who love climbing as well and, between the seven of us, we have tons of questions and the staff members are always there to help us figure out boulders and techniques and offer help with anything we ever need. I’m not surprised by how amazing the employees are because the owners are all just as incredible. Jacquelyn has some magic powers and is somehow able to give her undivided attention to the needs of every climber and does everything she can to keep all of the climbers safe and happy (her laugh is also infectious and always puts a smile on everyone’s face-my 6 yr old also genuinely believes that Jacquelyn is his absolute best friend), Chris sets amazing routes and welcomed us so warmly with a tour of the facility and so much great information when we came in for the first time as new members, Jeff makes a point to always give us pounds whenever we see him and is genuinely interested in every climber, and Jenny always has the most amazing smile when she sees us and radiates kindness (my daughter also absolutely loves her yoga class!) The owners have put their incredible love of people and climbing into the gym and that is reflected in every component and employee of the gym. We highly recommend the kids and yoga classes!! We love seeing our kids grow and develop so much strength and discipline because of climbing. This list is by no means exhaustive of all the reasons we love Contact. Overall, best gym ever and we are...
Read moreContact is a privately owned gym that has a community vibe with facilities that rival even the best and biggest commercial gyms in the nation. Better still than the expertly set climbing walls and extensive training resources are the people that make this gym one of a kind. The ownership team, desk staff and setting crew have built an integral and tight knit local community where people of all ability levels can come in, feel accepted, and have their climbing success fostered personally. Are you a beginner climber looking dip your toes in and see what this experience is all about? Expect to come into a judgement free zone where the staff are happy guide you through your learning experience or direct you to some of the gym’s comprehensive educational resources and classes. Are you an expert climber looking for targeted training activities in between your outdoor projecting sessions? Expect to climb on masterfully set routes set by their seasoned setting team that are rotated with high frequency, or head up to the mezzanine where you’ll find a Moon Board and a wealth of training tools. During my time climbing at Contact, I’ve seen the Southwest Utah climbing community finally get a venue they can call home and where they’re able to convene with other community members. I’ve also seen budding climbers who got into the sport expressly because the gym opened up in town, whose experiences have flourished over the less than two years Contact has been open, and who have bright futures ahead of them because the staff have personally fostered their climbing journey and ensured that they had everything they needed to succeed. The sense of community and camaraderie at Contact is truly something magical that is lost on the large, sterile commercial gyms that are taking over the national industry. Do yourself a favor a pay this...
Read moreAs a seasoned climber as well as former gym employee and route setter, I have climbed at every single gym in Utah and nearly 100 gyms in the US and Canada as I have traveled with my partner for competitions as she is a nationally ranked competitive climber. I have been climbing at Contact for years now, I was even there on their very first opening day. However due to my experience on Apr 4, 2023 it is unlikely I will ever come back. I came in to climb and ended up buying a new pair of Scarpas. I should have been charged $200.80 but ended up paying OVER $1000 for the shoes which also left me strapped for cash for the rest of my road-trip to a competition in LA. Over the next few months I would spend several hours on the phone with my banks customer service, as well as with Contact. Rob, a senior employee at the gym was often difficult to reach, and sometimes blatantly rude to me as I tried to resolve this frustrating situation. At no point was I ever offered any type of compensation, not even a day pass. I still have yet to see all of the money owed to me, and at this point it’s unlikely I ever will. Due to these circumstances I cannot recommend anyone climb here and I myself will opt to enjoy climbing outside instead of in the gym when I am visiting southern Utah. 1 star for decent aesthetic and modern hold types.
UPDATE Jeff, the owner of the gym kindly contacted me and resolved the matter within 2 weeks of my posting...
