My friend and I got offered these tickets by these nice ladies who bought extra tickets. We thought why not, maybe we'll learn something. At the first stop, people in our group got excited and started chatting until the rest of the group caught up. And instead of asking politely for us to quite down she goes off and tells us we need to have respect when she is talking we are not to and we need to show respect. I understand the need for respect but respect is earned and starting your tour off like that is not going to help you receive respect.
Through out the 40 min of the tour that we stayed for...she was overly opinionated and shared a lot of useless personal information, like where she lived. In addition she shared some opinions that were disrespectful (ironic) to the city that she was touring about. She was upset about the new limitations about where microphones could and could not be used because of city complaints and she made sure we knew how she felt.
Don't even get me started about her attire. This is a well known city for tourists especially in the month of October. I'm not saying you need to be dressed up in costume or anything. But she wore sweatpants that said Gryffindor and a sweatshirt with her hair pulled up in a mess. The only way I could describe her is she looked hungover. Her demeanor and presentation was also a huge issue with me. She continuously paced around. This issue can be solved easily with a course in public speaking class that we all had to take in college. She continuously paced and avoided eye contact, making it distracting and difficult to listen to her (but not like I wanted to listen to her over opinionated thoughts). I believe the way you present yourself, the way you dress, the way you hold yourself, would help you receive the respect that you oh so desire.
After 40 minutes of gibberish talked at us. We decided to leave and was thankful we did not spend a single penny on...
Read moreLAME. We picked this from the reviews and thought it looked great. wish there had been THIS review at the time. The 20 something tour guide was a nice kid, but it felt very much like I was hearing stories at 5th grade camp. Their was no continuity to the tour, the facts were embellished or sometimes all together wrong. There were lots of stories about a friend's dad he knew saw this or his girlfriend's friend had an experience... He also got light headed when he was experiencing an "energy" He spent alot of time talking to the girls his age after we got to each stop and we (30+ people) all stood there waiting for him to turn his mic on for the next speel. We made it only 40 minutes and decided we should leave before I started commenting out loud. I did call the owner (from his door, during the tour) and left a message before posting this He called back a few days later and said the guy was "usually got good feedback" We were TOTALLY disappointed. No offer of a refund even though I sent the owner a picture of us outside his window 40 minutes into the "tour" we were on. He did offer to reschedule with a different guide, but we were already back in Missouri when he called back a few days later. We went on HOCUS POCUS tour the previous night and HANDS DOWN was more authentic, well put together, had evidence to SHOW you from history and gave us goosebumps. The tour guides were professional, authentic, historically accurate and amazing! HOCUS POCUS was a great tour. If you are picking one - definitely take HOCUS POCUS. If you are picking two, try HOCUS POCUS and...
Read moreA friend and I decided to visit Salem for Halloween. While searching for fun things to do we found the Salem Historical Tours. Since I was new to Salem the Salem 101 tour looked interesting and was available for that weekend. We also signed up for the Haunted footsteps tour which was later in the evening for that same day.
The Salem 101 was informative and interesting, but then my friend and I also love history. We found the tour manageable for a wide group of age ranges and the guide did have quite a bit of information that he shared in a polite and professional manner. If you want to know Salem's history, not just a focus on the witch trials, then this is the first place to go.
The Haunted Footsteps Tour was later that same night and again we were pleased with the tour and the guide. This was a very different tour from the earlier one but enjoyable with a more playful spirit considering the tour took place on Halloween. The history does overlap in areas but not enough to make the tour boring by any means. Our Guide Bob was awesome. Bob showed up dressed in costume as the grim reaper and led us through the crowded streets of Salem showing us some of the most haunted places in the area. The stories were creepy and thoughtful and the group enjoyed every minute. And surprisingly there were stops on the tour that did give you goosebumps. As for our guide Bob his story telling style and sense of humor made the night one to remember.
Thanks Bob and we give this tour company...
