I booked an appointment with Designers Edge to have my hair and make-up done for my wedding day. I grew up in Salisbury and as a teenager Designers Edge was always the classy and sophisticated place to go - so I thought it would be the perfect place for wedding hair and make-up. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was not impressed by my make-up or hair at all. My make-up did look nice, but there were very noticeable imperfections which included my eye-lashes not being put on properly along with the horrible foundation that they used on my skin that I feel did not truly cover any imperfections. As I was getting my make-up done and looking around at all of the make-up choices, I believe that the make-up artist didn’t have access to a lot of make-up brands which definetly didn’t help. They only had a choice of like two different foundations and one “wedding lipstick line.” Sadly, there were not many colors to choose from and it ultimately ended in my make-up looking nothing like I wanted.
As for my hair, I have minimal words. I specifically asked for a hair dresser that was familiar with multi-racial hair. She straightened my hair the night before which looked awesome, our plan was for me to return on my wedding day so she could curl it. She curled my hair on my wedding day and applied hardly any hairspray which made me skeptical. I asked her if she was absolutely certain my curls would hold, and she said yes. From the time I walked out of Designers Edge and drove to my wedding venue, my curls had fell and my hair looked awful. I had to have one of my bridesmaids re-curl my hair which ultimately cost me a lot of time that I could have spent doing something else to prepare for my wedding. On top of that, she charged me $100 (plus I gave a $20 tip) for curls that didn’t last for more than 30 minutes.
I would not recommend Designers Edge for wedding make-up, and I would certainly not recommend them for any multi-racial hair styles or treatments.
Thankfully my make-up did turn out great in pictures, but up close it looked very different. I am also very thankful for my bridesmaid who was able to re-do my hair.
A total of over $300.00 was very poorly spent. I really wish Designers Edge would put more of an emphasis of serving women of color through knowledgeable stylists, make-up artists, and make-up brands that have colors that favor women of color. Until then, I will not be returning.
The picture in the chair is me before I left Designers Edge, as you can see my hair was barely curled. The picture in my wedding dress was after my hair was re-curled and I applied some of my own foundation/blush. 5 stars to my bridesmaid! She curled my hair better than the...
Read moreI have been to this salon numerous times through the years and am usually very satisfied. During my most recent appointment two days ago I went in for an all over color and a haircut. Upon arrival the stylist and I had a good consultation about what I was looking for and went over inspiration photos, I felt we were on the same page. The stylist brought out to hair color and after applying it to my entire head tells me she added a warm tone to the mixture which I didn’t not ask for as I was going for a cooler toned dark brown. This wasn’t as big of a deal to me as it could be easily fixed with toner later on. I had showed her a photo of the haircut I was looking to get but somehow I ended up with bangs that I had no desire to get and absolutely hate they do not work with my life at all. I specified that I wanted to be able to tuck the hair behind my ear but it is far too short to do so. I asked to have my hair cut at a certain length but instead she thinned out my very thick hair to what is now paper thin on my head. Two hundred dollars later I left the salon devastated. I am so extremely disappointed and upset by my experience and that I now have to live in hair I hate because my wants as a client weren’t pursued but rather pushed aside so the stylist could do as she pleased. I really don’t think I will be returning after years of coming here because of this...
Read moreEvery year my husband gets me a gift card for a hour massage. I used it yesterday!! won't go back. I was running late due to a nail in my tire----called and said I would be around 10min. late to which I was told that was fine. appointment was at 10:45, I arrived around 11, was welcomed and handed me the clip board to fill out information and took directly back to the massage room. The masseuse, was polite and was very good. During my massage there was loud laughing back and forth and loud talking discussing about how someone wanted her room set up. This bothered me because I feel when you get a massage it is suppose to be relaxing----calming! The masseuse finished, to which I replied "that hour went fast" She did not reply! When she left the room I looked at my phone and I was cut short 10min.!! I left the room and went to the front desk to pay. I did let the front desk know about the noise and that It should be considered a quiet area-----I was told it would be $110. When my husband got the certificate at Christmas time it was $70 for a massage---but I did add therapeutic warm stones for $25 dollars more. If I knew I was going to be cut short on my time due to being late, I would have rescheduled. I have gone other times and there was construction going on-----not a calming time either. But this will be...
