I've been shopping at HL for years, always enjoyed their things. I knew it was a Christian owned store and have seen a variety of decor with religious themes before. Yesterday, however, my mom and I were both overwhelmed by the sheer volume of Christian merchandise! Almost to the exclusion of things that did not have a religious bent. I decided to check out the greeting cards, looking for an engagement card. Not one single one was secular in nature. As I said, I realize it is a Christian owned craft store, but it is getting to the point where people who don't want or need items with crosses, bible verses or trite religious sayings won't be able to shop there. There are plenty of Christian stores that sell all Christian items. I wouldn't go in them expecting secular items. But HL doesn't bill itself as a Christian store, it bills itself as a craft store.
I used to put HL in the same group as Chic-fil-A and Books-a-Million. Christian owned, ran with Christian values, but the majority of products appealed to everyone. If HL keeps on this trend, they will fall out of the CFA/BAM group. Which I think would probably be bad for their business. Unfortunately, the town I live in has only 1 craft store...HL. I'll be disappointed if they keep up the level of religious themed stocking that they're currently doing, and have to drive an hour to get to a craft store where the products are not covered in crosses and...
Read moreThis Hobby Lobby store is poorly managed. On 7/28/18, the lines were backed up at the registers and the manager up front could have cared less. One of the cashiers was either brand new or wasn’t trained well at all. The line didn’t move for almost 10 minutes. A good manager would have either opened up one of the many vacant registers or called one of the associates from other parts of the store to assist, but she did neither. Therefore, I put my item down and walked out. Hobby Lobby lost a sale. This seems to be a frequent occurrence with the lines always being backed up. Why bother having so many registers if you’re only going to use two? The one positive experience I can share in this review is how helpful the associates throughout the store were. Kyle was fantastic, as he showed true care in helping my grandmother in law with the frames she wanted. He was a great guy. Also, the lady working in the fabric section of the store was very nice and very helpful with my wife’s fabric request. These two employees are great, and I want to emphasize my appreciation of...
