Chinatown Buffet — Restaurant in Salisbury

I much prefer the quality of Flaming Grill. Chinatown isn’t the place that it used to be. It has really fallen apart. The interior is totally dilapidated and outdated. The food selection wasn’t there, and the seafood was mushy. I didn’t try a single thing that I could say was even halfway decent. It was edible- barely.

If you are considering a Chinese buffet in Salisbury, JUST GO TO FLAMING GRILL instead. It’s right down the street, is newer, cleaner, has more selections, and the food is fresher, tastier, and has more flavor. Honestly Flaming Grill it is SO much better in every category. Literally everything at Flaming Grill is better than Chinatown. I have no idea why people actually eat here except that they are in denial. Flaming Grill even comes out to be cheaper somehow.

We went here on a Friday. We had honestly stopped coming to this buffet years ago, and we couldn’t remember why. We had a coupon so we thought we’d try it. Thought we’d go on a Friday during the dinner rush, because when buffets are busier; the fresh food is coming out more often. Well, not the case. We now remember now why we stopped coming here. The little bit of food they did had to choose from looked like it had been sitting out forever and picked over. Just old and nasty. The buffet was dirty and gross. Cardboard has more flavor than everything I tried here.

The crawfish were bland, and mushy. Couldn’t even pick them. They needed a LOT more seasoning and to be cooked properly. Same went for the peel and eat shrimp; couldn’t even peel them without them smashing up in your hands. And the crabs weren’t even pickable. Mushy. I tried the coconut shrimp. I would rather them not do seafood at all if they can’t prepare it safely and properly. It was horrible. I also tried the egg drop soup- bland and gloopy (even for egg drop soup). The fried crispy wontons that go on the soup are the old dry ones that no decent Chinese restaurant serves anymore. General Tso’s was the worst I’d ever had. Literally everything I had was disgusting. I would take one or two bites and leave my plate full. What a waste, but I just.couldn’t.eat.it. I didn’t even want to try the “sushi” (or what they were trying to pass for sushi. If you have a death wish, be my guest). There wasn’t a single thing there that could redeem it. Even the soda was flat and terrible! I’m laughing as I type this but it is true.

The hibachi was laughable in comparison to Flaming Grill’s, and the quality and selection of the hibachi ingredients was poor. The quality of all of the food was poor, and it was all very bland, and old. It was a mess and very dirty. You can tell when they erected their hibachi, not a lot of thought went into the layout, it looked like it was just thrown up there so they could say they have hibachi. Again the selection of hibachi ingredients was slim, and the quality was so bad I can’t even describe it.

The buffet all-in-all was not very big. Not a lot of selections. The interior was very old and musty, and could really use renovations. The entire restaurant needs a complete overhaul if it stands a chance.

And it was unbelievably expensive for what we got- even with an $8 off coupon it was more expensive than the far superior, cleaner, newer Chinese buffet right around the corner. I don’t think we have ever been so disappointed with our life choices as we were walking out of this place. Learn from our mistakes and go to Flaming Grill. Terrible do not go absolutely hilarious experience, first off sushi bar was literally empty nothing even there we were there for an hour they restocked one roll hilarious, crabs shrimp and imperial was just straight up gross smelled bad mushy did not look fresh at all tasted very off and to top it off both the wannabe beef Wellington and chicken wings were straight up pink in the middle clearly undercooked tried the sweet and sour chicken almost broke my tooth hard as a rock top it off after only 15 min of being there and in the middle of eating our waiter decided to bring the check over and then had a attitude when I did not stop mid attempting to eat a rock hard wonton to pay, then she decided to Completely ignore our many attempts to pay the bill for over 20 min when we were actually finished. The funniest part is when we went too leave she decided to stop us and point out the tip line on the receipt where we politely told her she would not be receiving any tip for the fact that the food was terrible, all she did was ignore us and fill our water once and the fact it’s a self serve buffet I mean seriously what in the audacity I receive more and better service at a McDonald’s what are u thinking begging for a tip looked into it and the tips themselves literally go to the restaurant not the waiters themselves so it adds another layer of just pathetic human display. Not sure if her manager told her to do that but go begging on the street for money not to me😂. Also we paid with Apple Pay and she would not let us tap it ourselves made us open the phone go to wallet so she could take it herself to the back checked later on and it looks like she added 5 dollars on top of the bill absolutely ridiculous. Pathetic food but more importantly absolutely pathetic staff just utter dissapointment in human kind after visiting. One call to the police and the FDA would shut this place down forever. If I ever do return it’ll be for the simple purpose of documenting this so that this place is closed indefinitely. Would not be surprised if they had a body list for the people who did not survive there buffet. Also in all seriousness there is a very real chance they do not follow proper protocol with those crabs and might be self collecting in Salisbury which news flash currently has e-coli in almost every body of water. I usually say good things about this place. But tonight 1/13/24 I sat down with my girlfriend and my buddy for dinner and it completely was the opposite. We had finished up with our food and I had ask for the check I put my card in and paid for it but when she handed me the the black folder back with the recites all paid for my debit card was missing. I understand when it’s super busy that slip ups happen. I told the waitress that my card was missing and I would like if they could find it since they were the ones to lose it. The manager eventually came over and started apologizing and asking me to double check my pockets. I said no problem i did so and nothing. She then told me there was no reason to lie about losing my debit card which then started my frustration. They had lost my card then accused me of lying even tho everything was PAID for. Got tired of waiting they took our number and said would call us if they find it. I had no idea if they were ever going to find it so when I got home I had cancelled my card because I didn’t want anyone stealing/using it. Few minutes later they had called us telling us they found it so we went back to get it. Went back in picked my card up and with all the frustration and accusations of me lying the least we wanted was a refund of $55 for our meals because now I had no debit card and no way to get any money till Tuesday. The lady refused and insisted I called the back at 7:30 at night when they are closed and will not be open till Tuesday because Monday is a holiday and I explained that to her multiple times and she wouldn’t listen.
