This was our first time visiting Tokyo Steakhouse in Salisbury. It was a birthday celebration and my goal was to make it a fun dinner. For the most part this succeeded.
Our first little glitch was no big deal. We had to move seats due to a mistake, which the hostess apologized for no less than five times. Really no issue and we appreciated her apologies. We were seated and our waitress was prompt and kind.
Our drinks were brought to us quickly, as were the appetizers which were freshly cooked and tasty. Then the chef came out. He was fun and funny (woo woo!), although I'm not sure squirting water on an unsuspecting customer is the greatest idea, but was received with class and some giggles. The fried rice was very savory and tasted great. Vegetables were a bit bland but no big deal there since tbh we weren't there for the veggies.
The big issue came when it was time for the "I'm gonna flip this shrimp into your mouth" part of the show. I understand that this is part of the hibachi experience, but I would encourage your chefs to take "No" as an actual "No" during this portion of the show. If a patron does not care for shrimp, and does not want to catch a shrimp in their mouth, then the chef should respect those wishes and not throw a shrimp at the patron anyway. Unfortunately, this was disrespectful and dampened the mood a bit, which is why I have to lower the rating by a star.
The rest of the meal was uneventful, the food was very tasty and plentiful. There was a performance of Happy Birthday with the most enthusiastic gonger (? what do you call a person who bangs a gong?) I have ever seen in my life. This man "played" the gong like he was onstage during a concert and doing his solo performance. We absolutely loved it.
All in all, our experience was good, with the exception of the shrimp-flip which left a bad taste in the mouth (metaphorically not literally). I'll again encourage management to please have your chefs bypass anyone who doesn't want to take part in catching the shrimp. Other than that, it was a fun night, perfect for a birthday...
Read moreUpon arrival, it was only a short wait. We didn't have reservations. There was two of us. The floors were extremely slippery. We were seated, and Eric came over to ask us about drinks. My friend ordered a water with no lemon. Eric gave us our drinks, and my friend's water had a lemon. I knew from the moment Eric came over to us that this wasn't going to be a good experience. I've been to similar restaurants like this, but that was my first time there. There was four others seated with us. So a total of six. Our orders were pretty basic. Eric came back with salads and soups. He basically just slung them on the table. A few minutes later, our cook came and began preparing our orders. He was great. The only issue I had with the food was that the vegetable portion was so small. I ate them in a couple of bites. We reminded Eric about the sushi we ordered, and he said it'll be up soon. Our food is now cooked and on our plates. Still no sushi. Another customer at the table also ordered sushi, and didn't get it as well. We ate most of our food and still no sushi. Reminded Eric again. And while all this has happened, he hasn't said a thing. During our meal, he never came back to refill our drinks. He didn't clear the soup and salad bowls. Our table was super cluttered. We're now done with our food and drinks. Asked Eric for our bill since we had been done eating for over ten minutes. It took him another ten minutes to bring it. We asked a gentleman if he was the manager and he said yes. We told him about Eric and he said I'm sorry and told us to ask for him when we come back. He didn't tell us his name. Another table also had issues with Eric. They handed him a stack of plates and bowls that weren't cleared from the table. It's safe to say that I will not return back to this location. If you do go there, I hope you don't get Eric, and if so request...
Read moreI never write reviews but felt this needed to be shared. I had dinner at this establishment this evening. Our table was full. There were 3 couples, my husband, my nephew and me. It started out great. Our chef had prepared our fried rice and vegetables and served it to us. Once he finished preparing the shrimp and was serving he made a mistake with one of the guest on the opposite side of the table from me. She informed him of the mistake and he took a platter from under his prep cart and she scrapped the shrimp from her plate, along with the chef using his cooking spatula, to the platter and he put the platter under his prep cart. Using the same contaminated spatula, he continued flipping and turning the remaining food on the grill to finish serving the rest of the table. When he got to the far side of the table where me and my family were seated he realized he didn't have enough portion of shrimp remaining. He went under his prep cart and got the used shrimp that came off of the other guests plate (which she had been eating her rice and vegetables off of) and placed a few back on the grill, tossed them in with what was already cooking and attempted to serve them onto my plate. I immediately got up and went to find a manager. I informed her of what had taken place. She attempted to rectify the situation by going and replacing both me and my husbands shrimp, however the shrimp was cooked with the contaminated spatula and had touched the uneaten portion of food left on our plates. We were not offered any type of discount and where told they could not re-cook our food (rice, chicken and vegetables) because the kitchen was closed. Apparently their chefs are not trained in proper food handling. I will not be eating...
