HERMÈS Westfield UTC Store — Local services in San Diego

On 08/23/2022, I decided to do a bit of shopping at The HERMES boutique in UTC, La Jolla CA. I have been to Hermès in Zürich and 24,rue du Fauboug Saint Honroe’ Paris, and I/we received excellent service. I say this as I know that some of us have been treated with preconceived racist bias when visiting certain HERMES locations. I am of mixed race and come from a family that is grateful for our success. My treatment at the HERMES, UTC La Jolla was a negative experience, I am annoyed and not surprised by this. It is often why some of us don’t approach these types of boutiques although we are more than able to purchase items of our choosing. I won’t go on about the interactions with the sales person, I will say that I am frustrated by her behavior as she is a person of color and should find this type of behavior/interactions with anyone, unacceptable. After thinking it through, I will return the items I purchased, though I know it makes no difference to HERMES & its conglomerate, if I or my family & friends ever purchase from their boutiques again. I also live in LA and have shopped at Hermes BV, never once received such deplorable service in fact the service is always excellent. These types of client service environments have an opportunity to set as standard protocol, an employee engagement & training program that includes the topics of racial Discrimination, inform and eradicate preconceived ideas about ethnicity, race, etc what it means to Stereotype and how to treat...

It was our first visit to Hermès UTC, and it lived up to expectations. The store itself is elegant; the layout and spacial design deliver a sense of quality and luxury with many of their high-end merchandise displayed well.

If you're planning on visiting the store, we recommend making an appointment ahead of time. You can walk-in, but to get a sales associate would probably take some time because they are all pretty busy.

Our sales associate was Ashmalli, and she was super professional, extremely courteous, and knew her product line. She showed us several items and took the time to tour us around the store to look at the different selections available. She also gave us a background on the Hermès collections. We told her what we were looking for, and it was so amazing that she provided us options on items based on what we were interested in. She took the time to get to know us and keep us engaged.

One of the things we admired about Ashmalli was that we never felt pressured to purchase, she made us feel warm and welcome during our visit and made us feel comfortable. Nevertheless, we did see items we really liked thanks to Ashmalli, so we ended up purchasing them. We are looking forward to continuing to purchase from this Hermès store because we had such a great experience.
