As a 55-year-old woman, I saw that my older friends/family were becoming more sedentary and could no longer perform activities that they enjoyed and even struggled with performing some of life’s tasks. I finally realized that if I wanted to be strong and sustain my quality of life, I needed to make changes and begin a fitness program ASAP. I had been going to a gym for over a year but only did the machines because I did not know how to use barbells and dumbbells etc.
I hired two different personal trainers and was not exposed to the basics I was hoping. I came home and told my husband that I just wanted a coach to teach me proper form so that I don't get injured and I want them to cheer me on! He looked at me and he said it sounds like you want to do CrossFit!
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever consider going to CrossFit. I've always thought CrossFit was for people that were already in shape, which I was not. My husband did his research and discovered the best CrossFit facility in San Diego…Crossfit Invictus.
We went to Invictus and spoke with the manager named Kim. I told her that I just wanted to get strong. She told me that she could tailor a plan unique to my age, fitness level and limitations. A couple days later she sent me a follow-up email again telling me that she could help me. I was thoroughly impressed with her enthusiasm and I figured “Why not? I committed to going for one month. I was so nervous but I started to work with Kim and I got 100 times more than I ever thought it I would get from Crossfit. Not only has Kim been teaching me proper form and how to do various exercises, but she has made working out FUN which is not how I ever thought I would view fitness! Her motivation and encouragement has supported me in achieving more than I ever thought that I could do.
It has been almost two months now and I absolutely love going to Invictus. I am feeling stonger every day. I cannot thank Kim and everyone at Crossfit Invictus for making such a positive impact on my life and supporting my...
Read moreMany years ago, while walking around in Little Italy in San Diego I came across a small warehouse building named CrossFit Invictus. As I peeked inside, I was immediately drawn by the high energy of this place. Members were rooting for each other as they performed barbell exercises, I was not accustomed to seeing in other gyms (Thrusters, Snatches, Cleans). There were no elliptical, smith machines or other standard equipment normally found in traditional gyms. Some of the members had amazing physiques as if they were playing a role in some superhero or action movie. After an amazing introduction by the front desk staff, I signed up.
Fast-forward to the present and after Invictus relocated to a bigger and better location, I’m still a proud member of this awesome gym and enjoying the fruits of a healthy and active lifestyle. With the help and expert guidance of the awesome Invictus coaches, I have learned so much invaluable information about nutrition, proper exercise form, recovery, and stress management. With 11% bodyfat on my body, and all my biomarkers within a normal range, I am the fittest I have ever been in my entire life. Yeah, I may never achieve the physique look of a superhero or action movie star, but I feel and perform like one.
Invictus is more than a gym, or a “Box” as the CrossFit community refers to it. This is a place of healing where fitness and nutrition coupled with excellence in workout programming, couching and awesome and friendly fellow members are the finest in the industry. I have visited other gyms in San Diego and around the country and I can honestly say that Invictus Fitness is a place where lives are transformed.
If you are struggling with your health, body composition, age-related muscular degeneration or simply want to revamp your fitness to a new level, I highly recommend Invictus Fitness. Joining Invictus Fitness has been a life changing experience for me and the only regret I have is not finding...
