Do not live here if you want to be left alone to enjoy your living space. It’s not a conducive place to work from home and live, constant interruptions and all day maintenance windows from the vendors they hire for things you didn’t even ask for with very little notice (usually 24-48 hours). The building has been undergoing renovations for the past 2 years and it’s getting worse each month, there are now roaches all over, and severe flooding on the 2nd floor when it rains. You will not receive a rent reduction for unused space taken over by their renovations. My patio space of 200sq feet was blocked for over a month, I had no access and my door was pinned shut (fire hazard) and no compensation was provided after it was promised. I ended up breaking my lease and leaving the stressful and unsafe situation as the construction dates were extended another 2 weeks past the month. They considered my unit livable with 8-10 men on a given day staring in my windows while they worked all day, excessive noise, a dog that was beyond stressed, and told me sorry this sucks, but make sure you pay your rent in full on time?? There are no amenities for the dogs, but they were increasing pet fees from 50 to 65 a month for a very small square patch of turf that has been replaced 1 time in the last 5 years (guess how nasty that thing gets). My dog didn’t even want to go near it and I don’t blame her. The parking garage is constantly broken into and the storage units are always posting about things and bikes being stolen, if you move here do not put anything in there you do not want stoken. My car was broken into as well in the gated garage and items stolen. This is a combo of lack of garage security and downtown living. Again, I can count 20-30+ bikes reported stolen from residents on our community page while living here. Some being good friends that lost theirs. Electric bill started at 60-80/month, ended at 250-350/month (for 615sq ft) due to construction and my guess is the units need replaced due to age, and the windows are not sealed properly losing heat/ac. 5-10% increase annually, regardless of unit market value. Breaking my lease and resigning would have save me $250 a month based on what they wanted to charge for a new lease versus what I was offered to renew at. I lived here for 5 years, and the last 2 were pretty awful. I was so happy to leave the construction site, I mean apartment.

I was extremely discriminated today around 4pm by a white male security guard. I was doing my job, making a delivery, I had all the access codes. This man singled me out amongst other delivery workers entering the building at the same time. I was the only women, he stopped me from entering the elevators with the others because it was ā€œtoo fullā€ he then proceeded to block me from entering my access code to the elevator and continues to berate me for absolutely no reason. Forcing me to tell him the floor I’m going to and using his keycard instead of the code I had. He entered my physical space to intimidate me and continued to escalate his tone and aggression when I didn’t just comply and let him. I called him out for blatantly fixating on me for absolutely no reason. Offered to re-enter, showing him I have the codes. He started then taking photos/videos on his phone and told me I was trespassing. This person is unwell, this was inappropriate, and unnecessary. I reiterated that I’m just doing a Job too please just let me go through. I am now banned from doing deliveries here. I would love to resolve this if anyone could provide contact of the apartment or security company. This is absolutely wrong.

Pros: - Apartment complex is pleasant and well maintained. - Management staff is friendly and professional. - Solid amenities (pool, Jacuzzi, gym, rooftop area, etc.) - On-site parking is nice Cons: - Elevator access key fobs are a bit jankety. (Still works fine but you may have to swipe a couple times to get them to work). This appears to be a ubiquitous experience amongst residence and usually it just becomes something to laugh about. If you are looking for a convenient place to live in East Village / downtown San Diego, Market Street Village apartments is an excellent option.

Great experience overall, starting with the initial conversation all the way up to move in! Staff exceeds expectations and really care about residents. Nice to see that management knows residents by name!

UPDATE 2.5 Stars: I debated whether or not I should update my review, but felt it may be useful for current residents. First and foremost, I still truly believe the management and team of people here are great. This review is updated based on the inspection/checkout experience after 1-year of living here. The inspection process felt like a sham and was very petty. Most importantly, it was a waste of my time beforehand. To put things into perspective, I had everything moved out before inspection so that everything could be wiped down and to make the inspection go faster/smoother (again a key emphasis on consideration of a person's time). Cleaning and moving wrapped up days before the inspection, therefore the space has been unoccupied. At the start of the inspection, the inspector goes into the bathroom and points out the following: Some paper towel residue left at the top of the mirror. Dried water marks in the tub around the metal stopper.

Afterwards, proceeds to walks into living space area (this is for a studio apartment) and mentions that the outside patio railing was not wiped down and dusty... this in an outside area (that I never used) where dust flows freely by the minute. However, that's not true from their perspective. So I proceed to mention that "these are small issues about places that get dust daily that are being pointed out". So the inspector proceeds to the oven and fridge, which have been wiped down and clean, and points out another "cleaning issue". Instead, this time he takes his finger and puts it behind the rubber part that is used to stop the fridge doors from slamming, just to show that there is dust there... Black dust does not accumulate in-between the rubber parts of an appliance in 1 year. Let us assume it was a brand new fridge (it is not), even then that much dust in-between the rubber pieces could not have accumulated in that time. The truth is that the appliances are dated and are already worn to a point where no deep cleaning can renew.

In the end, I was told that I would be charged $60 for carpet cleaning (I have no pet and there are no significant stains) and $100 for them to do a deep cleaning. Essentially, they want to make sure that every single crevice found is spiffy clean and that costs $100.

Overall, the entire inspection felt predetermined from the get-go. I have lived in many complexes and have never been charged for an inspection. Ironically, this was my smallest size apartment with the least amount of stuff.

My reasoning for such a low rating change is because it felt shady and not transparent. If they are going to charge you for the cleaning regardless (whether they use your deposit to pay a vendor or you pay a vendor directly) then that should be known to the tenants. Otherwise, tenants waste there time preparing the space only for it to be nitpicked. When a tenant moves in, a complex always does standard procedures days leading up to a new tenant moving in, such as: repaint walls wipe down (again, because small dust will return before the next tenant moves in) Therefore, the gripes they had were very overblown and are nothing that the standard wipe-down won't fix.

Simply put, the inspection felt like a front to use the deposit money to pay for a cleaning (they will tell you that you have the option to hire someone to clean. That point is moot, because you still are out of money. You should not have to hire a deep cleaning if not needed when the space will be wiped down days leading up to someone moving in. Why is that.... because small dust WILL accumulate even when vacant, especially outside.)

In the end I could not choose 2.5 stars so I leaned toward 3 instead of 2, because prior to this incident...

I've been a resident at MSV for about 2 years now. I started off in a studio, but my girlfriend (now fiancee) loved the community so much that we recently moved in together and currently live in a 2 BR unit. Our apartment is HUGE with a great view of the city (and pool) with large windows for plenty of natural light. The complex has a very nice gym and pool area as well as a communal rooftop and common area (we love reserving the movie theater when we can!) The rent is high, but honestly worth it with the stellar service you receive as a resident. We have two cars so I was parking on the street for a while (plenty of parking around the area, our friends never complain visiting us), but after a few months they got me in touch with another resident to lease his space. Just an example of how the staff really takes care of us and we feel like they care!

We had plenty of options in Downtown San Diego, but the reason we stayed (and plan on staying) is because of the AMAZING staff. We both work from home so we see Dennis, Aaron, and Suzanne almost every single day. They're always so happy, cheerful, and pleasant whenever we run into them downstairs or around the complex giving tours. Whenever we need help with something or have an issue, the team is ALWAYS quick to help us or resolve it for us. The staff is extremely approachable and accessible which was a huge reason why we chose to stay here. The cleaning crew does what they can to keep the place clean (a lot of pets which is normal), and I see the maintenance guys always on the move working their tails off! They're the best.

I've lived in a lot of complexes since college, and MSV is by far the best community I've lived in. I'll stay here as long as I can. I have friends and coworkers who also live downtown, and I'm constantly bragging about how great our complex is compared to other downtown-living spots. It truly feels like a "community" and the staff (including the maintenance and cleaning crews) feel like family around here! I've gotten to know the staff pretty well and they work so hard to make sure their residents are happy (which we are!)

The staff absolutely makes this place, and they...
