Museum of Illusions San Diego is such a fun time! I was excited for its opening and a month in we were able to get tickets.
SHOUTOUT TO CJ!! CJ GETS 6 STARS FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE!!! Saw me heading to one of the kaleidoscope things with my DSLR & mentioned he had the same camera at home, and offered to take pics and helped us with group photos THROUGHOUT after as well, making sure we didn't miss anything.
There's a lot of other staff around to answer questions, interact, and take pictures! They're a friendly & artsy bunch. So they really do what they can to make sure people are seeing & enjoying the exhibits they have to offer.
They do have a discounts sign-up, but offers, options applied, and time to apply are really limited. Though there's reduced pricing for child/senior/military, & schoolteachers with ID get in free. Otherwise, just go for the (currently at time of reviewing) $35.
There's street parking, free after 6pm on a Friday night, so we were so lucky to have found something within the block. You have plenty of nearby parking garages as options too.
So you'll have your share of illusion images on display (yes the ones you have seen time & time again.) And just in case you are unfamiliar with any, there are instructions for each interactive piece. The phone guide I recommend mostly for accessibility (audio), but otherwise written information is beside each exhibit.
The go-to photo ops often take form of mirrors & kaleidoscopes and sets you can pose sideways for. The place is currently new & clean, but you can expect to lie on the floor for the sets. I would recommend brainstorming beforehand to get creative with them! Some of the exhibits are more unique (within the museum) and those are especially fun! Take pictures AND video. Some of these things are better experienced with motion.
Then there's interactive activities to play with, puzzles & games, a lot to do! Good for all ages, I definitely recommend coming with someone.
Clean bathrooms, water fountain, and free lockers.
Thank you so much for a fun-packed 2.5 hours! Highly recommend! Congrats on your opening & y'all are a lovely addition to San Diego...
Read moreI was expecting way more for the price point. There were a few cool exhibits but overall I was very underwhelmed. We took our four kids yesterday and after paying well over $200 to get in we were expecting some really cool features we had seen advertised online for the San Diego Museum of Illusions but nothing was at all how it's advertised. They say over 60 exhibits but most are just a small and non interactive. The good ones take forever waiting in line to actually get to the exhibit. It was over crowded for sure which I found odd since you book a time. We were in and out within an hour and we saw everything and even waited in two long lines for photos so don't expect much, it's not vast at all. I'm not saying it's a total bust but keep your expectations low and the museum really shouldn't be charging more than...
Read moreHad a wonderful time!! Decided to take my girlfriend out since we both had the day off today and I gotta say I don’t regret choosing this place! When we arrived at the museum today both our expectations were blown out of the water! We had fun getting lost in the exhibits. We also met Ash who was very respectful and helpful! He also pointed us to what I want to say is hands down our favorite thing we got to experience, the reverse room! Im totally going to tell my friends to come here! I have to recommend this place to anyone thinking of going, it’s really fun! And keep an eye out for Ash! The dude is super nice and really...
