Hey! You. Not her. YOU! Do you enjoy the outdoors? Ok. Do you enjoy beer? Dope, dope, dope. Do you love dogs? Stupid question, who DOESN'T love dogs, right?
Well, dang, my friend, if I don't have just the place for you.
Quartyard, from a distance, looks equal parts Mad Max and a hipster dream; the main buildings are made from shipping containers , which lends a very industrial feel, while the design elements have that "raw wood, iron & edison bulbs" vibe that will make you want to prattle on about vinyls & Frank Lloyd Wright.
Best part? It works. Unlike many places in the Gaslamp & Hillcrest that attempt to pull off that vibe, it just works.
Now onto the offerings: while the beer is more on the mid-to-high range price-wise (for me at least, but I'm a fan of dive bars mostly) it's a nice selection. You'll find no Budweiser, Coors or Pabst (wouldn't wanna take that hipster theme TOO far), but you will find their dream-world alternatives. I myself have the Barrio Lager, which was a mighty tasty brew. Their Bloody Mary isn't the spiciest, but it's quite good as well. There is food on site, but didn't get a chance to have any- it smells freakin' good though, i that helps.
Last and MOST IMPORTANTLY: DOGS, MY DEAR. SO MANY DOGS!
This spot only gets better due to the small sl fenced-in area for pups to play in. So while you soak up sun, quaff delectible beer, and eat glorious food, YOU. GET. TO. OBSERVE. PUPPIES. PLAYING. I cannot stress enough how cool that is.
If you're a dog owner, here's the things I noticed: it has astroturf, so if your poochie had an accident, no biggie. It can get Peggy busy, so maybe not a great spot for more shy/nervous doggos. The pen tends to be filled with medium to large dogs, with a few Rottweiler-minded Chihuahuas. Unless your tiny floof can really bark big, you might wanna skip bringing your teemsy dog into the pen. However! Teensy doggies can hang out at the tables or at the bar, so don't worry, Puddles, you can come too!
There is a security guard on site. Cornhole, giant Connect Four, and giant Jenga available. Clean bathrooms.
PS: when you enter, you'll look down and notice at the entrance, there are commemorative paving stones. You know? The ones that day things like "dedicated to Dr. Sanford" or "donated by Ricky & Bubbles". There's one that says "Nice Underwear! From the Something Family" and its just way too good. Just had to share....
Read moreGreat little outdoor venue and im grateful to have it in our city. The space is well utilized and the security is respectful and helpful. Last time I was there, I shared a concern about a man in the crowd potentially being unsafe to women. His behavior wasnt specifically illegal/aggressive, but seemed potentially threatening and certainly nonconsensual to the women nearby. Security heard my concern, notified the event runners, and communicated with the individual in question to keep their behavior in check. They also updated me later and told me to let them know if he tried any weirdness again and I didnt see any other issues through the night.
Ive been to events where i literally had to fight off a would be kidnapper from taking a random girl, and security basically laughed off the situation. The response the team at qourtyard displayed has earned my respect and appreciation.
Stoked to be back for...
Read moreThis post is for Soul Sunday, a monthly event at Quartyard. My colleagues and I attend regularly, and it's an absolute delight!
From the moment you step into the venue, you will feel the sense of community buzzing in the air.
The amazing band, especially the drummer Rashaad Graham, and the diverse lineup of musicians brings people of all backgrounds together, creating a vibrant tapestry of shared love for music.
The atmosphere is electric, with everyone dancing, singing along, and just vibing. It's always refreshing to see friends catching up and strangers bonding over their mutual appreciation for good music.
The organizer, the wonderful Mr. Blake Dye, and his team do an excellent job curating the event. (Quartyard offers food & libations)
The best part? Knowing that this event is not only entertaining but also contributes to the unity and vitality of our community.
See you at...
