I was looking for a suit for my wedding so I booked appointments with many tailors to see fabric and samples. David, the owner, was late for my appointment by approximately 15 mins. This was not a big problem as there isn't much he can do as he was attending another customer. He asked what my budget was and I answered $2000. Immediately, I hear a disappointing sound coming from him. Nevertheless, he helped me picked a 3 suits that fitted well and offered to reduced the price of 1 of them by $160 to exactly $2000 (the other 2 were sub-2000). I asked if it was alright for me to take photos of the suit as my fiancee isn't with me which he agreed. After trying the suits, he began picked out a tie and a shirt which were agreeable. Since I haven't view a lot of suits, I wasn't ready to make a commitment what essentially should be an investment. At this point, I thanked him for the appointment and told him that I would make a decision soon after I visit the other tailors that I have prior appointments with. His attitude quickly soured. He began to question which other tailors I am seeing and whether or not I expect them to give me a better price. I was very clear when I made the appointment with him that I was not ready to make a decision. I think it is unreasonable for me to an informed decision on a dollar suit after trying on 3 suits.

As I was able to leave the store, he rudely called me over with "Come here". I did so. He then proceeded to tell me that I have wasted his time (I was there for approximately 20 mins) and that I need to delete the photos that I took of the suit (I guess he did not want me to show other tailors his merchandise). I deleted the photos as this is not someone I would want to deal business with. Other tailors that I have visited happily allowed me to take photos and fabric samples even though I told them that I've made many appointments with different tailors.

There was a crisis. We needed a sports coat that fit, and we had a very short timeframe. It was a tall order (I’m 6’4”). When all else failed, we cold-called Couture Uomo, at 5PM on a Friday. David set up a meeting us for the next day at 2PM. By 3PM our crisis was resolved. We selected a fine merino wool jacket from several good options. We also now have a high-quality tailor who we consider a friend.

The tall order was this. Sports coats have not fit me, since stores no longer carry XL sizes,. This time, we went to the high-quality chain store whose nearest store is now in Marin. I found a casual yet formal coat but it was a little tight. The tailor put me in one size up. It took a week to get the new size. When it arrived, another tailor put in the lots of pins and asked for lots of extra money to make it fit. We asked about this. The head tailor told us that I was the wrong size for the coat. She recommended the smaller size, which they now didn’t have in stock. It would take another week, then a week to tailor the smaller one. I was going around in a 2 week circle and now had less than a week to go.

When I called Couture Uomo, David selected the coats he had that fit me. He sent me pictures so I wouldn’t come into the city for nothing. I saw several that I liked. When we arrived the next day we enjoyed his full attention. He had us try on each selection, then take pictures outside in the sun. He showed us other pieces in the store that he was proud of. My wife tried on one leather coat to die for. Since all we needed was my sports coat, we had to leave it behind.
