Eight bucks and change for a super burrito with gauc is cheap for this area. I can't get enough of the chimichanga with carnitas. You could make two meals of these items, though I usually just enjoy them too much and pig out. The available hot sauce in the fridge is nice and smoky, this really elevates these dishes. If you don't want to take some home, they have smaller burritos, and other, cheaper options. I've even enjoyed some of my daughter's plain burrito, which is a huge, meatless option for a mere five bucks. Refried beans are quite tasty, and liked wife's carne asada platter, although I do prefer carnitas here . I find the grilled meats a little dry. The barbacoa and chilli verde are interesting, sort of stewed meat with a little spice. Haven't tried the burgers, but fries are really good. All in all, very good for what it is. This isn't fine dining. I'm comparing to other burrito joints. I have a weakness for chimichangas, and just think the value here can't be beat. Early lunch time often crowded with work crews, as the place is small. To go you can probably still get in and out fairly quickly. Dinner usually plenty of seating. Right by the entrance to the Stockton tunnel, I guess it's...
Read moreThis is my favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot in northern California. The price is right, the owners are friendly, and the food hot, fresh, and delicious. I'm fortunate to live nearby and leave work early to grab to-go for dinner. My go-tos are one of the combo specials - either 3 tacos (+ chips and soda) or baby burrito (+ chips and soda). A steal at around $12 each. ALWAYS GET THE EXTRA SIDE OF SPICY SALSA (SO GOOD)!
Separately, I recently worked with the owners (Jose and Julia) for a large catering order for my company and they put together a fantastic taco bar spread (chips, pico, all the fixings for street tacos, plus rice + beans) - it was very well received! Trying to figure out how to convince my company we need a taco bar spread every month ......
Read moreI've seen this place many times when heading up Stockton St, but it always looked sort of scary in it's dirty little corner near the tunnel next to the happy ending place. This definitely falls into the "don't judge a book by it's cover" category.
I got a chicken super burrito without sour cream. Once I sunk my teeth into it, I couldn't believe I didn't discover this place sooner. The whole thing was juicy and delicious--I mean juicy rather than greasy...and I do mean delicious. Chopped onions, melted cheese, succulent chicken, delicious white rice, and a bunch of other stuff. I've never had such a juicy burrito, and it was perfect. Nice, hefty size too.
The guy at the register was friendly too. I'll be coming back here...
