Reviews of Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Slice House

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Tony's Coal Fired Pizza & Slice House in San Francisco, and I must say it was a delightful culinary experience. Located in the heart of the city, this cozy pizzeria offers a unique twist on traditional pizza by cooking their pies in a coal-fired oven. Here's my review of the place.

First and foremost, the atmosphere at Tony's is warm and inviting. The interior is adorned with vintage photographs and rustic décor, creating a charming and nostalgic ambiance. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which added to the overall pleasant dining experience.

Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the pizza. Tony's coal-fired pizzas are simply outstanding. The crust is thin, crispy, and perfectly charred, thanks to the intense heat of the coal oven. It provides a satisfying crunch with every bite, and the smoky flavor infused into the crust adds an extra dimension to the overall taste. The toppings were fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned, showcasing the quality ingredients used in every pie.

One of the highlights of Tony's is their wide selection of pizza varieties. Whether you prefer classic Margherita, meat lover's, or more adventurous combinations, they have something for everyone. The menu also offers a range of specialty pizzas with unique flavor profiles that will undoubtedly satisfy even the most discerning pizza aficionados. Additionally, they offer gluten-free and vegan options, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their delicious pizzas.

Aside from their whole pizzas, Tony's also offers pizza by the slice. This is perfect for those looking for a quick bite or wanting to sample multiple flavors. The slices are generously sized, with a thin crust and a great balance of sauce, cheese, and toppings. It's an excellent option if you're on the go or simply want to try different flavors without committing to a whole pie.

In addition to their fantastic pizzas, Tony's offers a selection of appetizers, salads, and desserts. Their garlic knots are a must-try—they are soft, buttery, and infused with just the right amount of garlic flavor. The salads are fresh and well-crafted, providing a lighter option to complement the pizzas. As for the desserts, the tiramisu is a standout choice, with its velvety texture and rich espresso flavor.

One thing to note is that Tony's can get quite busy during peak hours, so making a reservation or arriving early is advisable to avoid waiting for a table. However, the lively and bustling atmosphere only adds to the charm of the place.

In conclusion, Tony's Coal Fired Pizza & Slice House in San Francisco is a gem for pizza lovers. The combination of their coal-fired oven, quality ingredients, and extensive menu options makes for an exceptional dining experience. Whether you're looking for a cozy dinner with friends, a quick slice on the go, or simply craving authentic and delicious pizza, Tony's is a definite must-visit in...

A little late for review here. It’s about New Year’s Eve 31st Dec 2024. We placed order for a full pizza. The wait time was 1 hour.

I understand that during such huge rush wait time and quality compromise are expected. But we stood there for 2.5 hours, saw the people who ordered after us leaving with their pizza, so we repeatedly asked the people handling the counter about our order and all we got was rude responses.

To evade customer queries about orders the people inside would just not stand near counter they repeatedly hide near the pizza oven and giggle about something rather than answering us.

After complaining harshly that all people after us got their pizza and one few people were left standing there (we waited from around 8 till 10:30pm), they went inside and were talking with each other and guaranteed found that they missed our order. That’s what we have been telling them since last 1-1.5hr but now they listened as literally there were few people waiting and everyone got their order.

Finally we got pizza, we asked for napkins and they behaved as if I asked their property. They THREW napkins towards us. Again totally rude. Then we opened the pizza… half burnt half uncooked. They just rushed to give our pizza so that we won’t be mad anymore. I showed them the pizza but no response. After eating whatever we could we threw away the box in the trash in front of them and left.

Horrible horrible experience. 10000% we would have gotten seat for inside seating in Tony’s restaurant by this time where we would have got decent food.

Unfortunately I don’t have proof as we were so mad we didn’t want to waste rest of our evening. I have learnt this the hard way to fight back on the spot and take photo and video of such kind of services.

I know most people might disagree with my review or might have had a great experience there because of all their trophies and competitions win and the brand name, but for me…it was horrible.

And worst of all it was only us who got this rude behavior. The two girls handling counter inside talked with everyone nicely except us, their behavior didn’t change after we asked harshly but they were rude since the beginning. It’s sad that even in 2025 we were talked differently and negatively based on how I look and my color.

I just posted the review this late as this place came up in suggestions recently and it...

Decent pizza, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! We placed an order for pickup over the phone at Tony's pizza Napoletana and the person who took our order was awesome. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait and since it was our first time we didn't know we had to go pick our order up at the Slice house. When we headed over there were two windows: one for delivery service pickups and one for paid orders. There was a disorganized group of people in front so we got into what we thought was the line, but since we had not paid for our order yet I decided to go in and ask whether we had to pay inside first because we did not have a receipt or order number. There was an Open sign on the door and multiple "order inside" signs around it, however as soon as I walked in I was immediately told to leave and that this was why the door was closed (although it was unlocked and there were clear indications to come in). This particular lady was extremely rude and if she is the manager she does not deserve to be there. Someone else behind me had a similar question as had been waiting for 2 hours and was also shooed away without being able to ask. While waiting outside pointlessly without a number we noticed her yell at an elderly lady as well for going inside. Everyone waiting outside seemed to be aware of the situation, as one DoorDash delivery person had to just yell out the name of the person he was picking up for and everyone clapped when he received the order. This continued for almost a half an hour (possibly longer after we left) as the confused crowd outside waited for orders that were already ready and getting cold on the shelf because of poor management. I understand they are busy but you DO NOT treat customers that way. I must also clarify that it was just the one employee that was rude, and everyone else was trying their best to manage the situation, but it seems that she was in charge, hence the long review focused on this situation rather than the...

Every Time I Procure a Slice at Tony's Coal Fired Pizza. Standard bearer of the San Francisco Slice. Definitive. Argue against that to your own fault and nothing more than your own. You need to understand something here. Regardless of how good or not this Pizza is, it is still basically our Number 1 Representative of San Francisco Slice Pizza. Refute that, without a cause only to languish in your own inner peril and confusion in exchange for wisdom. Wisdom of the great food that is Pizza. If you have a problem with spending $7.00 on a Pizza slice then really you aren't even taking Pizza seriously enough for your opinion to matter. So why don't you go over to Blondie's and spent the same exact amount of money on that kind of Pizza instead of this since you feel a need to disrespect the beautiful craft that Pizza is then? If that's how you feel. Not sayin you do feel that way. But consider that. This is the G.O.A.T. for San Francisco Slice Pizza regardless if someone else is better or not. Simply doesn't matter. If you miss out on your opportunity to try this... it's not the end of the World. It is just kind of like... why not just do it if you're over there. That's all I am saying. After you have done it a few times, it's not a big deal anymore. But this is what we have in San Francisco. 85 Pizza Establishments tried in San Francisco since May 2022, as a San Francisco Native I say - disagreeing with wether or not Tony's is the G.O.A.T. is none of your business at all. No Cap.

Hi first time here and this place is pretty damn good! And price is very reasonable as well just under 7 bucks for my slice, the price and quality of the pizza you would think it's not good for how much it is but this is some very good pizza. I've gotten a Margherita sliced pizza and let me tell you the bread quality from the pizza is amazing! Very soft and fulfilling. The size of it is pretty decent too I'd say it's a bang for your buck! Another thing I really liked about the Margherita pizza the pizza sauce is good as well as if I was thinking I was really eating spaghetti in a pizza. And they do not skimp on the pizza sauce, they put a great amount of sauce in it and quality of it A1 as well. I really liked it. Only reason why I put it as a 4 star was because maybe if the mozzarella cheese on the pizza would be more hot and more melted onto the pizza it would probably make it 10 times better. Other than that I rate this pizza a 9/10 I highly recommend others to try the Margherita pizza if you really like just pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese in your pizza. Another thing I tasted from that pizza was the basil too it smelt amazing and tasted great 👍 this is great quality pizza and if I were to come visit San Francisco again I will come back here most definitely!
