Vagón Santurce — Restaurant in San Juan

Had to stop by one more time for one of the best tacos I have ever had in my life. So good. If you are in San Juan check out Vagon. Cool little food truck terrace area for food, music and drinks. We came here before our cruise and now again after our cruise. There’s a bunch of good food in the area but I think this was our favorite meal of the entire vacation.

During the week and not during dinner it’s easy to find a spot. But we also came Saturday night and it was pretty full but was able to find a table to sit, enjoy the food, music and drinks. Very nice people except when we came to sit early before they opened. They seemed to want time to themselves and rightfully so but we just wanted to sit and relax before our flights. They arent the happiest right now since they arent open yet but I’ll overlook that since the food is so good. We are sitting and waiting until they open.

But every other experience they were very nice and welcoming. Only one lady seems to be in a bit of a bad mood but not everyone has the best day. So no big deal to overlook it and still...

Our friends were on day two of our Puerto Rico adventure and were seeking out local food with a laid back party vibe. It gives the appeal of an outdoor garden combined with the authenticity of local taco flavors. We could choose from a streamlined menu of options, between Al pastor, steak, chicken, ground pork, and ceviche. Unfortunately, they were out of churrasco which seemed like one of the local specialties. Pros were the serving sizes were huge, margs were super cheap, and tacos had a good combo of flavors that hit the spot. Cons were the waitress was a bit terse and didn’t seem to want to accommodate our preferences, and still a bit overpriced ($9.98 x 2 tacos). This place works like a fast-food, and performs like a fast-food and, wait for it, has better food than a fast-food. They have a well-organized staff and they deliver great service. Loved their nachos and “taquitos al pastor”. Of the many times I have been there at lunch, I have never waited for anything, a drink or meal, for more than five minutes. They have the bar separated from the kitchen, well stocked. The bathrooms are small for the amount of people there, but they are also well kept and maintained.
