Boutique Accommodation Experience in Central San Juan

Boutique Accommodation Experience in Central San Juan

This was our first visit to Casa Wilson Inn. My husband & I stayed for 2 nights (a Thursday & Friday) in a second floor deluxe room, & we paid $431. CHECK-IN: Prior to check-in, I emailed to confirm our reservation & arrival time. Check-in took approximately 2-3 minutes. We were assigned room #11. • Amenities: Ceiling fan, one luggage rack, hair dryer, a few hangers, iron & mini fridge. • Bath: The shower takes 3-5 minutes for water to heat up (on our last morning there my husband got no hot water); pressure is light. We were provided with 2 bath towels, 1 washcloth & 1 hand towel; however, there was no handsoap by the sink (there is hand & body soap in the shower). Also, there's only a couple inches of counter space to lay your toiletries. I ended up putting mine on the floor or on top of the closed toilet lid. I'd highly recommend adding a small shelf to the bathroom or at least a small vanity mirror to the desk area for getting ready. • Bed: Comfortable bed.. soft-medium firmness. Pillows were firm. • Cleanliness: Excellent. Housecleaning not requested during our stay. • Cooling: Room stayed remarkably cool! • Decor: Lovely. I especially liked the art. • Sound: Quiet at night but fairly noisy in the morning starting around 7:00 AM. • Terrace: We didn't use the balcony other than to dry our clothes/shoes after going to the beach. • TV: No regular channels; however, Netflix is set-up & ready to stream. • WiFi: Worked well enough • Other: - Door locks when shut; however, there is no deadbolt or chain lock inside the room. In addition, light from the hallway floods the room around the loose door seal. - Tip: Bring a bag for trash; there is only one very small bin in the bathroom. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Very quick to respond to emails. The front desk rep who checked us in was polite enough but did not welcome us or provide information for our stay. However, you can find said information (e.g. WiFi password) in the room. FOOD: • Breakfast: Simple, yet delicious. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs w/ ham & toast. • Tip: There's a vending machine in the breakfast area with cold drinks available for purchase. LOCATION: • Location: Convenient & safe. An Uber from the airport or to Old San Juan averaged $13-$15. POOL: I wouldn't consider it a swimming pool, but it might be nice to lounge in on a warm day. Would I recommend/stay again? Yes; however, I'd choose a larger room for a longer stay. Also, a few small upgrades would go a long way, including: 1) Extra towels, or at least 2 washcloths; 2) Handsoap; 3) Shelf in the bathroom; 4) Larger trash bin; 5) Lock inside the room; 6) Full-length mirror.
K.K.
This place is a quarter step above being a hostel. It's like it's running on a generator at night. The electricity went off once, then periodically blinked during my 4 day s & nights stay. Only one of my wall lamps worked. The vagrants/unhoused are visible in the area making it feel very unsafe. Anyone could walk in there, and the desk staff would be none the wiser. They are often occupied with everything except customer service. The phones don't work, they sit on the desk collecting dust. I imagine that's so no one can have access to the desk attendant. Unless you walk up there, even then they behave if they couldn't care less, without a verbal prompt. They didn't provide any information on the facility beyond which room and breakfast times. I found out on my own on day 3 of my 4 day stay that there were towels, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent for use. The mosquitos and noseeums (biting flies) get in the rooms. It's honestly their place. That could be helped if they would spray for them. Contracting West Nile or Dengue is only a matter of time just sleeping or eating there. So, it's not peaceful. Breakfast tastes good, besides sharing it with the gnats & mosquitos. It's made to order so it comes to your table hot. What was wild was that I paid UP FRONT (in advance) for 4 days, 4 nights. I only ate breakfast 2 mornings. I declined the pre-breakfast fruit bowl both days, and then when I ask for an additional waffle to accompany the ONE waffle with my eggs, I was informed there's only one breakfast per person. Why breakfast is being rationed blew my mind. The only place you will experience the AC is your room, so please soak it up. As soon as I stepped outside my room, I started sweating. In the lobby, too. The furniture appeared as though it was from someone's decade old neglected storage unit. 0/10 would not recommend. Book somewhere on the beach and who's not rationing food.

If you’re considering options in the area and have any doubt about this place, erase it and book your stay! I’m on day 5 of an 11 day stay here, and I couldn’t be more delighted that I found the Casa Wilson Inn. My girlfriend joined me for a long weekend stay and felt the same way! She hated to leave!

You’re only a quarter mile from the beach, and even closer to the shops, restaurants, and nightlife of San Juan. You’re within an hour of the best beaches in Puerto Rico…and Casa Wilson Inn feels like home without feeling like an American tourist hotel. It’s quaint, cozy, comfortable, and the staff is incredible.

The room itself (I choose the most basic) is very clean, everything works, it has a small fridge, and a desk for work space (I work on the run). The WiFi works well, and the LTE signal nearby is adequate for streaming and work needs.

The breakfast in the morning is included in the rate, and it is just fantastic! The coffee is even better. This runs from 7-10, leaving plenty of time to get your morning started correctly. The area where breakfast is served is just pleasant from the visuals to the sounds of the birds and the kitchen. This may be my favorite part of this place!

I am also a value traveler. The value this place provides is the absolute best of any place I’ve been this winter, and I’ve been on the road for over a month, staying in at least 10 hotels/Air BnB’s from South Texas to Key West Florida , and now Puerto Rico. Everything you need is right here, soap, shampoo, breakfast, beach towels, sun block, and a nice little pool to cool off in during the heat of the day.

The staff have ALL been fantastic, attentive, friendly, and informative. Most speak both English and Spanish, which is helpful as my Spanish is very basic! My girlfriend is fluent and it was awesome to watch her interact with the staff while I try to learn more about the language. Staff is onsite 24/7, and the building is very safe and secure with locked gates and overnight security.

Long story short, JUST DO IT!! Book it!! This place is a much better price than the American resorts, and there is absolutely no way the big resorts have customer service with a home feel like this place. And I’m stoked to say I still have a week left here! 😁

I...
