I had high hopes for The Chile Shop while visiting Santa Fe and wanted to send my mother a hanging chile as a gift. When I stopped in, the owner mentioned they had just sold out but said I could place an order and it would ship out soon. I agreed and paid on the spot—however, I was never given any shipping confirmation or tracking information.
Weeks went by with no delivery. When I finally called to follow up (nearly a month later), the owner questioned why I waited so long to reach out. I explained I lived in Rhode Island and didn’t want to be a bother, assuming there might be a shipping delay. He told me the package was marked as delivered and suggested I check with the neighbors. We had already done that—no one received it.
Instead of offering a replacement or refund for the amount of $65.95, he said he’d “split it” with me if I wanted to re-order. I was confused—why would I pay again for something I never received? I let him know I’d be disputing the charge through my credit card, and he simply replied, “That’s your choice.”
No tracking, no follow-up, no accountability. Overall, a very disappointing experience and not what I’d expect from a small business known for specialty gifts. I would not recommend...
Read moreI liked this small shop and the man that was working there the day that I visited. I love hot sauces and he had a few that I had never seen. He helped me to pick out a few for my collection based on what I told him about my tastes. I bought the "Atomic City Verde" sauce among others. It is hot but not so much that it is hard to enjoy. The green, grassy notes of the immature pepper goes well with poultry and vegetables like cauliflower or strong onions.
The store was small but well put together. It is a nice place for tourists and other visitors to shop but if I lived in Santa Fe I doubt that I would be a regular, it just doesn't have enough to...
Read moreAbsolutely love their Medium Hot Dixon chili powder, and love the selection of all their chili powders. Instead of a blend, you can get the powder for specific chili peppers, and then make your own blend.
Only reason for less than full stars is that their online site charges way to much for shipping. A couple of years ago I wanted to buy just 1 or 2 bags of their chili powder, and shipping was twice the cost of the product total. So, instead we either try to make it down to Santa Fe every few years, or ask friends who are going to pick us up...
