After trying to shop at this store multiple times I have given up. It is less expensive and often easier to find and purchase games online. Dearest Outer Planes, if you are going to succeed as a physical store then you need to realize that you must provide something that can not be bought online. Friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the product and industry should be MINIMAL requirements.
I love games. I buy games regularly and I really WANT to support a local business but the employees at Outer Planes are seriously inept. Perhaps they are knowledgeable when it comes to comics, but when it comes to games they have no clue. If you only want mainstream Warhammer, Magic, Pathfinder or D&D then you MIGHT be able to find it here. But don't count on it. The store is filthy, disorganized and you might be able to find what you're looking for. If not, then don't bother asking an employee because they are rude.
Shortly after the Ennie Awards, I asked if they had Monte Cooks "The Strange". The first thing I had to do was explain to the Outer Planes "GAME EXPERT" who Monte Cook is. Then I had to explain what the ENNIE's were, and then he told me that if it was a popular game then they'd get it eventually.... Gosh... thanks!
Once I asked about a game from Green Ronin (Fantasy Age) and the guy told me that it is not in the system so it doesn't exist. ... ok.....thanks. I've tried to get a Arkham Horror expansion but couldn't find it at Outer Planes so I drove to San Rafael to get it at GameScape!
Recently I called Outer Planes to ask about The One Ring by Crucible 7 games. Again, I had to explain what the book title was several times. At one point the guy on the phone said in a frustrated tone "I'm going to put you on hold because I have a customer". I thought I was a customer?! Hello? Eventually he came back on phone, asked again what the title of the game was. Finally he asked me "Is that like ... one of those Pathfinder games?" It's called THE ONE RING. Hello? Have you heard of Tolkien? You work at a game store!
I'm done with this Outer Planes. I'm not going to waste my time on them anymore. I'd rather spend a half hour driving down to GameScape just so I'm not supporting these fools that work at...
Read moreI was really excited to go card shopping today. As of late, I have been downsizing and consolidating my Pokémon collection, and thought it’d be fun to bring a stack of cards with me to trade-in. Per TCGplayer, the approximate value of my trade-in card lot was roughly $45. I knew good and well that I would not receive full-value for trade, but was hoping to amass an 80% appraisal (this was based on my previous experience with a LGS in a different city). I’m also aware that trade-ins with a LGS always go in their favor, but I enjoy supporting local businesses and wish to keep the community’s comic and game hobby strong. In fact, months earlier, I donated heaps of playmats, coins, pins, card sleeves, jumbo cards, and code cards to this very establishment. Regrettably, today’s transaction did not go as planned and I cannot picture myself returning.
This isn’t a complaint about the employees (they were accommodating), nor is it a critique of the atmosphere; it’s truly a beautiful storefront with lots of positive energy and a broad product selection. My grievance is with their trade-in value policy. After surrendering my cards to the clerk and filling out the form (31-full art Pokémon trainers, near mint condition). The employee passed them along to his supervisor, only to return with an offer of $15 store credit. I was stunned and questioned their appraisal. $15 amounted to 33.48% of the TCGplayer value. Coincidentally, my wallet was full of cash ready to burn and the trade-in was merely to add to my big splurge. But, not only did I decline the insulting $15 offer, I left without making a purchase. So, to those reading this, please be advised, your trade-ins may be appraised at 33% of...
Read moreSo, I came in with my husband so he could get Warhammer models and paints. While he was going through their stock and choosing what he needed, I walked around looking at everything from Pop Figures, Comics, Dice, Collectible Cards, etc... they were stocked with everything you would need to start gaming, and/or adding to your current gaming obsession! They were busy, as they had a tournament going on upstairs, but they still took the time to walk up, introduce themselves, get our names, and asked if my husband and/or I needed help finding anything. They were super nice, and they are very knowledgeable about my husband's current obsession, WARHAMMER! Thanks to Clint, Nick, and their knowledgeable staff, he got everything he was looking for.
Just a little note to Clint & Nick... I would like to have a date night with my husband, but that won't happen if you keep suggesting and/or showing him new models to add to his army!! You know what you've done, I see you!! LMFAO!! Although, I will send him your way, for gaming, tournaments, and adult daycare services, especially when I need a day with the...
