Just poorly ran. Went in at 12:30 and there was one person behind the counter and one in the kitchen, but there was no one in line ahead of me so I figured it couldn't be that bad. People were trickling in behind me, but nothing crazy. by 12:50 4 people that came after me had got their food and I had not got mine yet.
At about 12:55 a new employee came in and I asked for a refund because it'd been almost a half hour for two spam musubi. They said they were the two boxes on the counter (not even under the heating element) that had been there for ten minutes.
I told them that I still wanted a refund. The employee that just walked in passed me off to the stressed girl behind the counter who was the one taking forever. They said that they were short staffed and I said, "It's not your fault that the manager didn't staff enough people. They set you up for failure."
At that point they got super weird and the lady who passed me off to the stressed cashier said, "we had someone call out sick."
I reiterated, that again, it wasn't their fault they had bad management that didn't adequately staff the business. Then the lady says, "i'm the manager, we had someone call out."
Honestly, if your business falls flat and crashes and burns with ONE callout, it's absolutely the failure of the manager.
It took about 8 more minutes to get my refund because the manager was sitting there glaring at me instead of helping the girl on register.
Even some communication when ordering, "we're short staffed so your meal might take 15-30 minutes" would've been fine. I could've just went next door and not wasted my entire lunch.
Just abysmal management, setting staff up for failure, and giving excuse after excuse instead of saying, "Yeah sorry about that, we'll get you that refund."
The owner needs to really reevaluate who they've got...

Read morePicked up dinner recently there and was impressed with the service given by Travis, the GM. He is affable, engaging, and clearly focused on making sure the business succeeds as he touts the $4 drafts. The dish I ordered was not meant to be spicy but apparently some cross-contamination happened because the food was just a touch heated. Not a problem for me, just unexpected. Also they were a bit shy on the amount of rice they were providing. Considering this is Hawaiian BBQ, rice is a big thing and typically served generously. A bit of a missed step there. Although I did not dine in, each time I've been there I have found the tables to be too sticky for my taste and the chairs are not super comfortable while waiting for my food. However even given that, I will return, especially if they bring Golden State Cider - Farms to Cider to the draft...
