Burnt District Salon — Local services in Seattle

As a designer, I know that design is as much about what you don't do as what you do. Mallory totally got it when I came in with a very short haircut that needed careful consideration and not a lot of cutting to turn from what it was into something expressive and alluring.

She asked me about my goals for the haircut ("I want a boyfriend") and rocked it. On my short walk back to work, I got a "Looking great, Babe!"" and a "Hey hey hey!," which is NOT Seattle as I know it. Plus, that same day, I got chatted up in the elevator.

Best yet, we have a plan to make it even better as it grows out. Ladies past 45 rocking a short pixie is tricky: Many possible aesthetic perils to navigate (Mannish, utilitarian, delusional, etc.) and I feel like I have a protector who cares and will put her heart and soul into helping me attract that elusive perfect boyfriend.

Burnt District is a new salon founded by well-established stylist Madison Walker. After a decade working at Gene Juarez she answered the call to open her own salon with it's own twist. Unlike any other salon in Seattle, Burnt District is member's only. While membership is free and takes two seconds to fill out (in person only), it allows for more perks than a typical salon (feel free to ask for a beer when you get your haircut). There are also numerous events going on like art walks and tastings that members are welcome to attend.

Overall, Burnt District is a welcoming place that gives the escape many people working downtown and in Pioneer Square need, even if it is just for a quick buzz or professional women's color and cuts....

Made an appointment, got a confirmation email, walked all the way there & showed up 10 minutes early & the place was closed. Lights off, door locked. Nobody answered the phone & their voicemail box was full, so I couldn't leave a message. Emailed the stylist & the salon twice & still haven't received any response after almost a week. I hoped it was just a mistake but I have no idea why this could be happening. No info about a closure on their website. I was very excited to visit this salon & hopefully find a regular stylist but I am...
