Walking into Hobo Bird instantly brought me back to my memories of Japan. It’s the kind of shop that captures that same quiet charm and creativity you find in small Japanese side-street stores — the ones where every shelf is filled with care, and even the smallest item feels like it has a story behind it.
The first time I stepped inside Hobo Bird, I actually stopped for a second just to take it all in. The soft lighting, the gentle music, and the rows of cute plushies, figures, art prints, and lifestyle items — it all felt so familiar, almost nostalgic. It reminded me of the cozy shops I used to wander through in places like Harajuku and Nakano Broadway, where every corner feels like a surprise waiting to be found.
What makes this place so special is how rare it is to find something like this in the U.S. Most stores here feel rushed or commercial, but Hobo Bird feels personal. You can tell everything inside the shop has been hand-selected with genuine passion — not just for profit, but for the love of the culture. It’s small, but that’s part of what makes it beautiful. It has that intimate, independent vibe that’s getting harder and harder to find.
Seattle is lucky to have Hobo Bird. Stores like this are rare — not just for their products, but for the feeling they give you. Walking out, I felt lighter, happier, and honestly grateful that something like this exists here.
To the amazing team at Hobo Bird — thank you for creating a space that feels like home for anyone who misses Japan or simply loves creativity, design, and good vibes. I’ll definitely be coming back again (and probably too often). If you’re ever in Seattle, do yourself a favor and visit. You won’t just find cute things — you’ll find a piece of magic that’s hard to come by...
Read moreAn aesthetically pleasing anime store with a focus on mobage merch. This store caught my eye with their adorable bird mascots!
I'm used to seeing anime stores that are packed to the brim with merchandise, haphazardly organized, but this one is very thoughtfully decorated. There's mostly merch for Genshin, Honkai, and Reverse 1999, but also sections for anime-inspired apparel, local artists' works, blindboxes, DIY kits, plushies, etc. The most surprising shelf they had were curated fanart doujinshi, and zines of original art, from JP artists. I thought I'd only see these at Comiket or Comitia, so this was super cool to dig through. Whoever picked out the original art zines has great taste.
Even if you're not a fan of the mentioned games, I recommend checking out the other things they offer! In the future, it'd be cool to see some more Arknights, Girls' Frontline, or...
Read moreThis new anime store in University District Seattle is a fantastic find! They have a huge selection of merchandise and figures for all your favorite anime, from classics like One Piece to popular games like Genshin Impact. I was impressed by their Hatsune Miku section and their more obscure character acrylics and keychains - they had everything a fan could ask for!
Honestly what really sets this store apart is just the variety and quality official items. They don't just focus on anime too - they have sections for other artists as well that you may recognize from Sakura-Con or Emerald City Comic Con, even a small doujinshi art book section. It's a great place to find unique gifts outside you're typical stores or to treat yourself to something from your favorite franchise.
Absolutely worth it as a destination spot when...
