I've been studying under Tara for roughly two years now, taking both weekly online classes and her monthly workshops. Even though I live far from the studio I find the drive out to see her worth it. She creates a nurturing environment in her classes, I never feel like she forced me or anyone else into an uncomfortable or dangerous position. She is very understanding of yoga anatomy and how everyone's bodies are different and have different strengths and limitations, and she is able to guide you to your edge while not pushing you past that where you might injure yourself. I always feel very safe and comfortable taking classes with her. She herself is also an active student, learning to deepen her knowledge of the asanas and other limbs of yoga. She will bring back fresh perspectives and teachings that she's gathered from her own journeys and incorporate them into our classes, so they never get stale. I love iyengar yoga because of it's emphasis on form and alignment, and use of props. I feel iyengar yoga is the best way to learn yoga without risking injuries, you will really learn the asanas here, especially under Tara's...
Read moreI am a long-time Iyengar yogini who has been very fortunate to have had only a few, but exclusively, senior-level teachers. My first was the renowned Felicity Green (now mostly retired), and my second was Ingela Abbot (Yoga NW in Bellingham) who I apprenticed with in her teacher training. I also took workshops with visiting teachers including Patricia Walden and Donald Moyer. My third teacher was Tara Bernstein at U-District Yoga. After I moved from Bellingham, there were no Seattle teachers I knew of at the time I felt confident with until I found Tara. She is 100% sincere in her commitment to her craft as a teacher and lifestyle. Yoga is a lifetime learning process and I can count on Tara’s ability to show the deeper level that I need, and where I would not go without her guidance. Tara is a world-class Iyengar instructor right...
Read moreI have been practicing Iyengar Yoga for 30 years, and Tara has been my primary teacher for the last 8 years. When the CoronaVirus hit, I worried about losing my weekly class with Tara. However, She set up Zoom classes, and I am delighted that they are of the same high quality as her in-person teaching. Her Online classes feature great attention to detail, very well thought-out sequences of poses, and the same atmosphere and focus as in person. It feels like Tara is right in my living room with me. She explains and demonstrates each pose, and then watches each of us, correcting and encouraging. The only thing missing is the hug at the end of each class. I highly encourage anyone thinking of trying online yoga to take a class from Tara. You...
