In early August, we visited Seward and went on the Marathon Bowl Hike with Seward Wilderness Collective. Chris met us at the office and checked on all our gear to make sure we were prepared for the hike. He also gave us our lunches and snacks to carry. Our group of 4 adults and 2 kids (9 and 11) was ready to go! Chris was engaging and knowledgeable throughout the hike. Between talking with the kids about their interests and discussing climate-related books with the adults, Chris easily connected with us all. We hiked up the steep jeep trail and stopped for a delicious lunch next to a river. The rest of the hike was mostly uphill but between learning about the terrain, weather, and flora and fauna, it seemed we were up to the Marathon Bowl in no time. Once at the overlook, we stopped for some surprise hot chocolate, tea and delicious granola bars. We spent some time reflecting, writing haiku poems and just taking in the stunning views. Chris' knowledge of the land, the effect of the warming climate on the area, as well as the plants and animals we saw along the way greatly enhanced our hiking experience. When we finally made it back to the office, we had hiked a total of 6 miles and enjoyed every minute. If you want to both see incredible views as well as learn about how Alaska is faring with climate change, Seward Wilderness Collective is the company to hike with!

We went on the Mount Marathon Bowl hike and although I was apprehensive to climb (because I'm not exactly "in shape" for a hike), it wasn't too bad going up the few stretches of steep paths. There are only about 5 steep parts at the beginning that take a few minutes each and then once you're past those, you get into the middle of the mountain, and it's smooth sailing at that point. It's very serene/peaceful, you feel one with nature, it's beautiful, it smells fresh, the air is crisp, you can even eat some of the vegetation (where applicable). There's a gorgeous lookout of the harbor at one point and you can simply take your time when needed, rest when you feel like, and just breathe in the earth. Our tour guide was very nice/knowledgeable and took precautions for any potential bears (which are going to be afraid of you anyway and will want to steer clear). We decided not to climb ALL the way up as we were getting ready to go on another excursion and wanted to take the trek back down a bit early, but I would do it again! :-)

Hiking Exit Glacier and Harding Ice Field with SWC guide Chris was incredible! What a beautiful national park so close to Seward, and what an easy way to see and learn about something that may soon become the stuff of legend, glaciers. Chris was informative and engaging as we made our way through trees, infographics, and wildlife on our way to the Exit Glacier. We saw FIVE MOOSE! With great weather, we were able to trek all the way to the Harding Ice Fields which was truly an unbelievable sight. SWC guide Chris assisted us and accentuated our experience with his local knowledge the entire way up and back. As a first time visitor to Alaska, this was exactly the sort of guided experience I was looking for. I would definitely recommend and reach out to SWC again.

We did the guided Alpine Trail tour with Claire of the Seward Wilderness Collective, which we booked through the Adventure Package with Salted Roots Cabins. Though we're from Alaska and have thoroughly enjoyed hiking in many places, this experience was still absolutely remarkable. From the outset, we knew what we needed to bring, as the guides sent us a clear list of things to bring with us that would make our hike enjoyable. When we arrived at the shop in the morning, our guide was there to meet us and prepare us for our day. After quickly reviewing our gear and signing necessary documents, we were on our way for our private hike. A brief water taxi ride and we arrived on the shores of Derby Cove. I hadn't before understood the true value of a private tour - we could pick the pace, stop to pick berries or take photos on a whim, and really appreciate the beauty around us on our ascent, without having to worry if we were too fast or not fast enough. As we hiked, Claire told us all about the history of the region, providing details about the history of Fort Raymond, Caines Head, and Rugged Island, and the natural history of the land around us. Upon reaching the end of the trail, we had an opportunity to explore the alpine ponds and take a break for a nice lunch (which was provided!). Our descent was just as enjoyable as our ascent, with a little more rain. All-in-all it was a wonderful time and humbling experience. The guides and staff were fun and personable, and it was well worth the cost. We recommend this tour to anyone who may be considering it and we look forward to taking another trip with the Seward Wilderness Collective in the near future - maybe to Rugged Island or...

I recently embarked on the Alpine Day Trip with the Seward Wilderness Collective, and it was everything I hoped for. From the boat ride, landing on the beach, and forest, the views, all of it! From start to finish, this experience was a testament to the beauty of Alaska's wilderness.

Our journey began with a warm welcome from our knowledgeable and friendly guide Chris, who seamlessly blended professionalism, humor, and a genuine love for the outdoors. The attention to safety was evident from the thorough pre-trip briefing, providing a sense of security for my husband and I.

The trail covered beautiful terrain, from mossy, lush forests to rocky slopes, culminating in the awe-inspiring alpine meadows. The guides not only shared their info about the flora and fauna but also ensured we had ample time to soak in and enjoy the surroundings. The pace of the hike was well-balanced, allowing us to savor the moment while still covering a satisfying distance. The food and snacks the guide carried was a nice surprise, a good way to take a little break..

In addition to the natural beauty, the Chris' passion for conservation and responsible tourism was commendable. The company's commitment to Leave No Trace principles was evident throughout the trip, reinforcing the collective's dedication to preserving Alaska's pristine wilderness.

Overall, the Alpine Day Trip with the Seward Wilderness Collective exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a hiking aficionado, or someone simply seeking a day of awe-inspiring beauty, this experience is a must. I highly...
