I have been interested in comic books for awhile, but for whatever reason hadn't started reading them. I've frequented comic shops in my life, but usually I just went to play magic and hang out. When I started going to New Wave Comics something was different. Jason's (the owner) passion for comic books is infectious and within minutes of talking to him I suddenly felt compelled to start reading. He is insanely (almost unreasonably) knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have. It seemed he was more interested in matching you with a comic you would love than making a sale. Mikaela (the owner) is welcoming. She is extremely friendly and while not as knowledgeable about comics just as capable and willing to help you in whatever way she can.
The shop is a little small, but has a nice sized selection and anything you don't find on the shelves can be ordered. There is also a "pull list" for people who pick up weekly issues. The shop also hosts events occasionally such as a "Batman and Brews" event in January 2014--where attendees read The Black Mirror trade and discussed it while drinking beer. The event was great and I cannot wait for the next one. All in all, New Wave Comics is a fantastic shop owned by two awesome people and anyone interested in comics should go and...
Read moreI'm not typically someone who will commit to a single business. However one of the people working here(I'm terrible for not knowing his name) blew me away the one time I was there. -Carnage is my favorite character, and I'm literally always looking for things involving him. I had originally started to go here semi-regularly because they had a lot of things I was looking for and deals that were hard to pass on. The one day I went, as I was perusing the shelves, the guy behind the register pulled out a carnage comic asking if I had it yet or not(I didn't, and they had gotten a bunch of new+old comics in a few days agoband when he was sorting through them, he had pulled that one for just me). When he told me that, I was honestly speechless for a few moments that anyone would do that, as opposed to just putting it out for the first person who sees/wants it. With customer service like that, I'd much rather take the time to go into the shop then buying...
Read moreThis is a really great shop! I've been buying comics for about 25 years and I think this is maybe the only store I've been to where you end up feeling like you made a friend with the person working there as opposed to feeling like you've interrupted them. Sad to say but the latter is kind of par for the comic book store course so New Wave really stands out. The guy who owns the place has turned me into some amazing stuff after he sees what I'm buying and shows me other stuff that he thinks I might like - often times its those $1 first issues and he just puts them in my bag for free. I look forward to sneaking away whenever I'm in the area to stop by and grab a few comics and talk to the crew here about comics, games, tv, or baseball. Great people! One of my all time favorite comic...
