Where to start.... as I'm unable to leave half a star... Something is wrong when you have your family member in the ICU setting & the medical residents do NOT communicate within each others medical specialty. They need to do medical grand rounds. The communication between the RN's also have to improve as at times I the family member would mention certain IMPORTANT RELEVANT conditions that have occurred or NOT had during the previous shift that the incoming RN was NOT made aware during shift change report. The residents are overly EAGER to do procedures so be very careful & remember you have the right for the procedure to be done by a licensed physician, STAT Dialysis was requested for our family member at 11ish a.m. yet it was not started until after 9pm (unacceptable especially in a "teaching" facility). A neuro consult was also requested & we were told that it could take 24 hrs for that to occur as well, again unacceptable to us as across the street they show to have a neuroscience building. I must say that after requesting to speak to the Risk manager, CEO or COO about this situation, which they NEVER showed up yet a neurologist magically appeared within the hour.
Our loved one was on a 4L N/C of oxygen without a humidifier, he was then placed on a continuous BiPap without humidification all respiratory therapist should know that a humidifier MUST be used via this device when in prolonged usage. Ready? The director of the Respiratory told me that they did not have humidifiers, I asked him to rent one, he ended up asking the Baptist Hospital across the street to lend him one. Ready? He had no idea about the amount of water needed yet it's clearly marked. Another thing we noticed as our father was on continued use of the BiPap no one would come to check up when the audible alarm would sound. We also observed that no RT's would come to document or make checks.
When my relative was downgraded it took many hours to transfer. So long that my brother & I were in the awaiting floor in the hallway awaiting our loved one so long that we had the opportunity to observe & record the incoming night shift floor clerk brag about how he deals with patients & family members that have to many "questions with attitudes." Our request to the medical staff & physicians was one. All we asked was for our father to be treated like if he was yours. Some did, most didn't. Now we are thinking about filing a formal complain with AHCA even if it’s for it to be on file. By far this was our worst experience ever in a hospital.
So to CEO Sandy Sosa-Guerrero you need to add the empathy credential to your credentials & “teach” it to ALL your staff & please open the budget for humidifiers they don't cost too much. If needed get rid of the extravagant FREE coffee machine you have in the 4th floor & use that money for basic equipment unless that is that it’s affecting someone’s under the...
Read moreThe first time walking into this hospital was pleasant. I’m supposed to be going for surgery on Monday and had to go yesterday to get be pre-op blood work and chest X-ray done here. After check in, met with the pre-op nurse that I spoke to on the phone (VERY sweet lady named Alma) who told me the whole system in the building was down so everything needed to be input via old fashioned paperwork and then put into the system after it was repaired. However- I kept telling my mother that I read horrible reviews on that hospital and now I kind of see why. We accidentally ended up on both of the floors that patients stay and let’s just say....this; it’s very loud, it’s VERY busy, it’s a LEARNING HOSPITAL so we’ve got a lot of young people doing their first years here. There’s only 4 private rooms two at the end of each of the 2 floors held with patients. When I walked into the door I was pointed to go to get my blood drawn...I literally threw my hands up and said “SO SORRY!!! Don’t think I’m in the right place!” To which I was replied to by somebody to go around the corner and have a seat that somebody would be with me in just a second. Let me just say...for a place that handles blood....needles...and everything in between that could cause CONTAMINATION.... I was so less than impressed. They left my blood splatter on the table the same room you get your blood drawn in you also do your urinalysis. Nothing to wipe with. The specimen cup was opened for me. My name was smudged. Let’s just say I’m less than thrilled to be having surgery...
