This review is more for the martial arts side of the center, although I've had several martial arts buddies who have used the acupuncture and have had great success with it. I don't think the 2 reviews here are a fair representation of the acupuncture, but onto the martial arts...
Tai Chi reigns supreme here. It's a solid form that definitely helps with flexibility and health--that of course depending on what you put into it. I always try to push myself to do stances lower. Tai Chi is great for all ages, it's a lifetime sport, meaning old or young can both do it.
The kung fu side has solid forms, including weapons. It will increase your strength and flexibility. The attitude at the school is relaxed, meaning you study at your own pace. Everyone starts with the basics, which I'll admit I thought at first were lame (I wanted to learn the real kung fu, lol) but now that I'm advanced I realize how solid of a foundation those basics built for me (I've studied at the school for 4 years). They don't do belts but rather levels: instructor, disciple, master. You can take your instructor's test after you've learned 10 forms, disciple's after 20, and master's all 30 plus I believe Tai Chi and one other advanced style (and probably showing you have the dedication and responsibility for it). They also have other gym equipment there for those who like to do conditioning in addition to forms. Sparring isn't part of the curriculum, but once you've learned a few forms any of the senior students are more than willing to do controlled sparring. Plus some of the forms are two-man, so you do get some direct application. I've tried out other martial arts, but I always come back to Master Lu's where I always feel welcome. I'm the type bored to death by a gym, so I use this both as self-defense learning and plain...
Read moreMaster Lu and his wife, Elaine, have been people who have had abilities to care for and educate my husband and I for the past 14 years. We have attended Tai Chi sessions at the Health Center about three times per week and have had some acupuncture treatments when needed. Tai Chi from Master Lu has been the most resourceful, deeply meaningful experience I could find in life for moving meditation and refocusing, centering myself after stresses of the day. Over the years, Master Lu has always been available at the scheduled times, always dependable and focused to lead a group in the simple but profound ways of this practice. Master Lu also has been available for us when we felt acupuncture would be necessary for ailments. My experience with his treatments has been truly healing. We know this family, including Taehao their son, are trustworthy and honorable people, remarkably skilled and practiced in the healing arts. We know they deeply care about all their clients and have contributed much to the community in which they live. Master Lu travels to Ogden, Utah every week to minister to his clients in the Weber County area also. We have paid a monthly fee to Master Lu all these years and feel it is the wisest use of our money for the greatest benefits. We send our love to them now that we have moved to St. George, Utah and are continuing the 2000-year-old Yang Long-Style Tai Chi Form with Master Gary Whitehead, an accomplished student of Master Lu and teacher of this form at Dixie State University. He also is a master of Kung Fu and teaches it there. We return to Master Lu's Health Center whenever we visit Salt Lake City and enjoy renewing friendships with other long-time...
Read moreIf you’re living with spinal stenosis, you already know how debilitating it can be. I was at a point where pain and limited mobility were becoming my daily reality. Doctors told me I might need surgery, and that was the last thing I wanted. That’s when I found Master Lu—acupuncture and everything changed.
From the very first session, I knew this wasn’t just acupuncture—it was healing on a completely different level. Andy from master Lu’s told me I’d need at least five treatments to start seeing lasting results. I live over 100 miles away, but I was determined. Even though I could only make it once a month, I stuck with it.
By the third treatment, I experienced something I hadn’t felt in a long time—relief. Real, powerful relief. I was able to resume regular activity without the constant pain that had been holding me back. My mobility improved, my energy increased, and I felt like myself again.
Andy and Ty’s care isn’t just about needles—they encouraged a holistic approach that included gentle exercise like tai chi, along with traditional herbal remedies that supported my recovery from the inside out. That guidance, along with the treatments, became the foundation of a new lifestyle for me.
Now, I still make the trip monthly—not because I have to, but because I want to. I see it as maintenance, balance, and self-care. Andy didn’t just help manage my condition—he helped me take back control of my life.
If you’re on the fence, don’t wait. At Master Lu’s acupuncture the knowledge, intuition, and energy is truly next-level. They don’t just treat symptoms—they help you heal. 100 miles is a long way to go for acupuncture… but for this kind of healing?...
