I have been training with the Sil Lum Kung Fu Kwoon for the last 4+ years and it has been THE best martial arts school I have ever attended. Sifu is a dedicated owner, teacher, and father figure who does all he can to assist his students both in and out of the Kwoon. Alongside Sifu is an outstanding unit of instructors and assistant instructors who are knowledgable about the material and aid in the functioning of the Kwoon. All who participate in this school develop a stronger connection than just training partners with each other. They develop a sense of family and belonging to the Kwoon who spend time and activities with one another both in and out of the Kwoon.
Every class has an Instructor, Assistant Instructor, and senior student to help with teachings and understandings of forms, defense techniques, and applications. Through thorough lessons and practice of application I have been able to utilize my skills for personal self-defense needs and am grateful for all the teachings that had prepared me for such situations.
The school also performs traditional Chinese Lion Dance as an additional option for students to participate in. It is NOT required for students to partake in. Along with Lion Dances students have the option to perform in Demo performances to showcase what they have learned.
I would highly recommend anyone looking for a martial arts school to come in and try the free class (wear something athletic to move around in), and see if this school is the...
Read moreI have been training at the Sil Lum Kung Fu Kwoon for four years. What I love the most about this school is the emphasis on Traditional Chinese Martial Arts and Chinese Lion Dance. It has been rewarding to gain a greater appreciation for the thousands of years of Chinese culture. Sure, Lion Dance season during the couple of weeks around the Chinese New Year can be busy, but I have found that lion practice is otherwise limited to an hour on each of two days per week.
Sifu Snyder has been incredibly helpful and patient--someone who truly loves the Arts and wants to pass the skills and traditions on to his students. The other instructors have been both knowledgeable and approachable, and I have genuinely appreciated their help in my efforts to improve.
As with most worthwhile activities, I find that I get out of my martial arts studies only what I put into them. Kung Fu requires hard work. It also requires patience. I feel like this school has provided a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow.
If you have contemplated beginning or continuing your martial-arts journey, I would encourage you to try a class at the Sil Lum...
Read moreThe individual attention received from Sifu and the other instructors is greater than I have experienced at any other martial arts school. You will get personal, one on one instruction from the owner every single lesson. Assistant instructors and senior students are eager to help. There is a true sense of family with everyone eager and invested in everyone else’s progress and success. Lion head and dragon dance are certainly a part of the school, but during their own scheduled times. Students don’t have to participate in these practices or performances. The students who don’t participate are treated no differently than the students who do. I know the student who left the negative review below and can say that the bitterness he showed was because of a personal conflict he had with another individual who is no longer a student at the school and is not actually reflective of his experience there. The king fu learned and practiced at the Kwoon will make you a stronger, sharper, faster, healthier and more...
