I wouldn’t normally bother to review a big box store, but I’ve had 3 serious issues in the last two months at this location. The first occurred when one of my items did not have a price sticker. I hadn’t noticed that the item I chose to not have a sticker, but others of the same item (a super small planter) had a sticker. I had sorted through them to find the one with the best paint job. In any case, I knew how much it was. The cashier told me that it didn’t have a sticker so she had to “call back” to the department to get the price. That call back took less than three seconds and she was already typing in an item code and the price. She hadn’t even given a description of the planter. There was an entire shelf full of different styles of pots back there. What I’m saying is…. She made it up. She arbitrarily charged me $14.99 for a $6.99 planter. She had already begun to scan the next item immediately so I wasn’t able to catch the price that she had put in until after I got my receipt. The second incident involved a return of a bottle of coffee syrup that, unknown to me, had been opened prior to my purchase. I brought the item in a bag with the receipt and explained I wanted to exchange it for the same item if it was available. When I tell you that neither the cashier nor the manager she eventually called over, could understand why I was returning the item after repeatedly explained that it was open before I bought it. It was like talking to air, zero comprehension. Worse, after a while they treated me like I was trying to do something nefarious. Eventually, they did allow me to exchange it, though, but only after I stated, “Are you going to allow me to exchange this item or not? If not, I would like to go in with my day.“ The third time was also involving a return and the same cashier, but a different manager. I had purchased a box of alcohol markers that were on clearance to give as a gift. When I peeled off the clearance sticker, I found that the original price of the item was three dollars cheaper than the clearance price. I figured that it was either a mistake, or the markers were very old (presumably because new shipments had gone up in price and then were discounted to that higher price point.) If the price sticker wasn’t a mistake and they were in fact very old, I wanted assurance from them that if when they were opened they were found to be dried up that I could still return them. If not, I wanted to return them now, unopened. While waiting in the long line to get to the cashier, I found two bottles of non-alcoholic drink mixes that I wanted to try. What I got up to the cashier, I explained that I had just picked up the two bottles of drink to purchase, and that I wanted to ask about a possible return of the item that I had in a bag with the purchase receipt. I then briefly explained the possible return.
I don’t think it should’ve been very hard to understand the situation… but the cashier just looked at me with the most vacant expression. As the minutes went by, I finally said “if you don’t know, could you maybe ask somebody?” She replied with the question, “so, you want me to ask my coordinator?” To which, I simply replied “yes, please.” The epic eye roll I got in response was comical. The “coordinator” came over and she was equally vacant. She literally could not comprehend what I was asking her at all. She then proceeded to accuse me of swapping out the stickers. Mind you I had the receipt and paid the higher “clearance” price so that would not make sense. She then switched to saying that someone else swapped out the stickers before me, but again that would not make sense because the person who swapped out the stickers would not have left the store with the item because I bought it. She then switched to accusing me of trying to steal the drink mixes, which were sitting on the counter to purchase. If I were trying to steal them, why the flip would I have them on the counter in front of them? Please, TJ Maxx, I know it’s hard to find people, but at least spend the money to hire a manager...
Read moreI visited the store yesterday where I purchased a few items for my three daughters. I had them try everything on, removed the tags, and washed all of it. When I was folding everything I realized a pajama set I bought for one of my daughters had the wrong size bottoms with it (4T shirt and 3T bottoms). I returned to the store today to exchange for the correct size. I did tell the cashier I had washed them, and she told me they generally do not exchange if this occurs. She brought the manager over, and he said it was fine to exchange. After that was all settled, the cashier noticed the same exact pair of pajamas I purchased the day before were now $2 more. So she once again asked the manager. But instead of doing an even exchange for me, they said I had to pay the difference. Literally was $2 less the day before. I had all of my children with me and was not going to argue over $2. But to me it is the principle. I have worked in customer service for many years, and I don’t feel charging more for the same exact item was...
Read moreI’ve always liked this store even though it is smaller than the one in Greensburg however, the last time I was there I was looking at makeup & couldn’t tell what shade it was because of the packaging. I looked it up on my phone & was trying to find the correct shade that way to see if they had it (it was Clinique so I figured if I could try it for less $$, why not?) & the jewelry counter associate came right up beside me & started rearranging things. Didn’t say a word to me. I worked in retail for 4 years so I know the techniques used when you think someone is shoplifting, but if she’d just asked if she could help me with anything she would have known that I was just looking up the color. It made me really uncomfortable so I just walked away & left. Don’t think I’ll be going...
