The Paper Store — Local services in South Windsor

Awful customer service !! I was in the South Windsor, CT store in November and noticed a "Wicked Cold" hoodie sweatshirt for my wife. The actual tag on it from the manufacturer said $39.99 (I took a picture of it to remind myself to buy it later). I called the store on a Monday in December to hold a size Small of the item for me until Thursday that same week, and the woman said sure, no problem. I then go in Thursday to pick it up at a register and pay for it, and am told by a woman that they only hold items for 24 hours. They NEVER told me that on the phone ! That is terrible customer service. Luckily, there was still 1 size Small under the display, but I noticed the price tag was ripped off on all the hoodies and a manual Price gun sticker price was put on as $59.99. This is terrible marketing for the consumer. They increased the price as soon as coupons were mailed to customers. How convenient and very disappointing. Understanding that all businesses close at a certain time, we were unaware of the time that this location in Manchester was closing as a clerk welcomed us into the store at 8pm. We had taken no more than 4 steps into the store, and the middle aged white female behind the counter not only clapped her hands at us, but said they were closed unless we knew exactly what we were looking for in front of other customers already in the store and staff. In a service oriented business, I sure am curious to know how someone like this is entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out The Paper Store's mission of customer service. I am a person of color. The manager was out and about talking to all of the customers. He went out his way to speak with my White friend, who I was shopping with. He did not speak to me at all. When we were leaving I was walking out of the store in front of my friend and he was telling customers to have a great day. I went to tell him have a great day when he reached out past me to speak to my friend and tell her have a great day and then and he wished the White customers behind me a great day as well.
