WE found our refrigerator stopped working Thursday morning. I knew there was a problem because even though all the fans and compressor seemed to be working, the condensing coil was at room temperature. (The condensing coil should be very warm IF the refrigeration cycle was working properly.)
On Thursday I called many providers and found that Moore Appliance Service could visit Friday which was before any one else could. We were informed that there was a $100 service charge for the visit.
Serviceman arrived on Friday and in maybe 30 minutes had the refrigerator cooling down and gave my wife an invoice with a charge of $314.77. No estimate, no approval for repair, just an invoice that was not itemized and a note describing what he had done, which was: replaced an "overload device".
I came home after work and the interior temperature of the refrigerator seemed stuck at about 66 degrees and noticed the condensing coil was at room temperature. We decided to let the refrigerator run overnight and see if it would cool down further.
So Saturday morning we found the refrigerator was not working at all, and the interior temperature of the refrigerator had risen to ambient.
We called the serviceman that Saturday morning and he denied that he didn't give my wife a pre-repair estimate. His advice to us was to call Moore Appliance Service on Monday.
So on Monday I called Moore Appliance Service and the Service manager there apologized for what happened and said that Moore Appliance Service would refund all but the charge for the visit plus tax.
It's the Friday of that week and I haven't seen any refund yet, hopefully it'll arrive soon.
I called Moore Appliance Service about this and the Service manager wasn't in so I left a message.
Later, the owner of Moore Appliance Service called my back and kindly notified me that before issuing a refund they had to make sure that MY payment had come in. After all, if I'd stopped my check and they issued one, that would be a mess.
That makes sense and its good that they took the time to reassure me.
My personal advice?
WATCH out!
BEFORE any repairman from anywhere starts working be sure it's clear that no additional charges will be made without your APPROVAL IN WRITING!
And if you choose Moore Appliance Service be assured that they will stand by their workers and make it good if there's...
Edit: Following the review, the owner did contact me to discuss what happened and to do right by the situation. I do give the owner kudos for being willing to listen and try to make the situation right. Changing the review from a 1 star to a 3 star.
We called Moore Appliance Services after trying to troubleshoot the issue with our icemaker not working. We had already replaced the items we could but it still wasn't working. After the technician spent a short time, he couldn't figure out the problem either and said to replace the ice maker unit. We told him we already did that with a new unit. He didn't know and left us with an estimate of over $500 in addition to the service call. He didn't want to listen to my husband, he just wanted to be in and out. We called another company. They came out and were able to confirm it was NOT the ice maker until like Moore Appliance Service said. Not only would it have cost us over $500 but the problem still wouldn't have been fixed. Moore Appliance was a waste of money and a waste of time. I have advised my property manager that they are not allowed to use them for my property due to there inability to listen and take the time to actually...
Read moreI was charged $119 for a 30 minute service call. When I schduled the service call I was told that the tech had many parts and may be able to repair my oven during the visit. The tech spent most of the time on the phone with Samsung trying to determine the problem with my oven. I was told it could be one or two things. One repair would be $300 and if that did not repair the oven the next option would cost me $600. A new oven at Lowes was less than $600. I went to Lowes and purchased a new oven. While at Lowes the appliance sales person told me that I should have unplugged my oven for an hour and it may solve the problem. The oven had been unplugged several hours so when I returned home instead of installing the new oven I restarted my defective oven. The oven has worked perfectly for well over a month. The tech did not suggest this option and I contacted Moore Appliance Service and was given the standard run around response. I guess in the future instead of calling Moore Appliance Service to pay double what other companies charge for a service visit I will go to Lowes and consult with their appliance...
