It’s kinda crazy that a place like this exists today. I’m a middle-aged guy who grew up in the 80’s before online shopping and hobby shops were so much fun to visit because most had aisles and aisles of models & toys that took hours to browse through. Every visit was an adventure and not a single aisle was left unexplored.
Hobby Town emulates that old school approach to shopping. I really enjoy each visit because they have an incredible selection of genuine model kits from all genres. They’ve recently added Vallejo Model Air paints, even though I lean towards Tamiya paints, which they also carry a broad selection of.
Beyond traditional plastic model kits they also feature a HUGE selection of RC vehicles. I’m not into RC, but I’ve overheard countless RC hobbyists marvel at the sheer volume of accessories they offer. Almost half the store is dedicated to RC.
They also offer name brand 3D printers and provide some broad support for them. I simply can’t think of anything they DON’T offer, with exception to specific model kits. I’ve often stumbled upon items on the shelf at Hobby Town that had been out of stock on Amazon for months. Their selection is truly incredible.
Sometimes it can be challenging getting assistance, but only due to surges in customers. Because they also host an incredible putt putt golf course, there are often groups of folks that require assistance before they can golf. I’ve come to anticipate this and never had any real issues.
I almost gave them 4 stars because they’ve been out of specific items I’m interested in, but so is everyone else? It’s not problem unique to Hobby Town. This I am certain of: My hobbies would be difficult to enjoy w/o Hobby Town. If there were no Hobby Town in Mansfield, I’m unsure if I’d be able to finish so many of the projects I’ve worked on in the past 4-5 yrs. Being able to snag an obscure paint color or a can of matte varnish is invaluable. Hobby Town has earned my patronage with both their selection AND prices. Check them out, it’s a fun place to visit, even for a tiny bottle of paint!
Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Hobby Town. I simply rely on them for so much and they’ve always offered me solutions, with very...
Read moreWent to visit the Ontario Ohio store on Friday April 8, 2022 with my friend. I fly planes and my friend and I are interested in getting RC trucks. While there, we basically had two experiences. My initial experience immediately when walking into the store, the older gentleman who works there needs to stay back away from customers. He's very unfriendly. Didn't offer either of us any help, even when there were no other customers to help. Because my friend and I had traveled a few hours to visit the store, we tried again. This time with the younger gentleman working there. I wish I could remember his name because he was extremely helpful. Very nice. You could tell he loved the hobby. He explained a lot to us newbies about RC trucks. Had it not been for him, I would have given 1 star. But even he couldn't escape the unfriendly manners of the older gentleman, as the old guy soon came over and told the younger salesperson that something was messed up in the computer and he needed his help to fix it. Maybe he was having a bad day, but he had a bad attitude. Additionally, it was an obvious move to pull the younger sales associate away from spending to much time with us. We left a few minutes later and the young man started helping another customer. So it was clear to us there was no 'computer issue.' Now I'm sorry, but we both were looking at $1500 rc cars when you factor in accessories like batteries and chargers. Needless to say, will take our business elsewhere and we won't be back thanks to the attitude of the older gentleman...
