They don't even deserve a 1 star, the place is nasty & not cleaned & its been this way for years. Drip buckets for leaks, running toilets, wet floors, broken seats, severely sticky floors, etc. Sometimes they look like they have plenty of staff & sometimes they don't, but either way whoever works there should be cleaning the theater & maintaining it. I did not have an issue w/ the temperature & thank god the theater's AC was working when we went last week. I would have walked out. Another issue my daughter experienced last night was being over-charged for movie tickets. She went last night w/ her boyfriend & there was a new trainee & a person who was training him that I am assuming should know the proper costs for tickets. It was just those two guys I think. Any way, their total was $36 for two people & the new guy even asked if it was just them two. They paid cash & they did not give her a receipt. Being teenagers, they didn't ask for one or probably thought they didn't need one. They did not use my stub member phone # like I had hoped they would either. Anyway they realized sitting in the theater that the cost seemed a little too high & questioned the same two guys at the counter at the end of the movie. They new guy & trainer guy told them to pay each other the difference. Being two teenagers they did not fight it further & that makes no sense, b/c the theater has the money, not my daughter or her BF. I called the next day to speak to a manager, but I think I spoke to a bunch of young college kids & no actual adults or someone above them. I explained the situation to two people. They wanted them to bring the left over movie stub that neither my daughter or her BF had any longer. They threw the stubs away after they got nowhere w/ the two guys who can't count. I was told that possibly the trainee charged a 3rd ticket by accident, but how can that be if the other guy was training him. No 3rd ticket was printed out either & they were not given a receipt or asked about one. I was told customers have to ask for them on our own bc they don't offer them. I guess the guy training him (who should be experienced) didn't care enough to correct the trainee. He should have noticed that 3 tickets don't cost $36 even. Even if they had a stub, they were only going to give back what the movie ticket was worth, but not the overage they paid. I think the charge should be in their system if in fact they legit charged the $36. It was $11.87 for 1 ticket, so 3 tickets would have been $35.61. To me it seems as though this guy didn't want to count back change since they paid in cash or maybe both were skimming off the top, over-charging certain people (like teenagers) that may not notice or question them as much as adults would. I don't know who the owner is or who the manger is running the place, but someone needs to do better. They need competent staff who know how to count & calculate sales of tickets properly. I don't think we will be back to this theater until they make some much needed updates & changes. We don't mind traveling the extra 45 mins to Pooler to have a better...
Read moreGross and disappointing. Surprised it's not shut down.
Outside, it looks sketchy. The paint job for this place is desperate to be redone, and the front glass is covered in old pollen from spring. You would never guess this was a movie theater if it wasn't for the sign. Movie theaters are usually kept bright and cheery outside to look inviting for guests.
Upon entry you're greeted with dark carpet, solid black walls, dirty, grimey glass and chrome here and there, and a rundown "arcade" with 3 claw machines and a star wars game - two of which are out of order. The floor is littered with specs of paper, popcorn and kernels, and soda stains.
Arriving at the concessions stand, you're greeted with a 'Cash Only' sign, which is suspect. But on top of that, there are glass cabinets caked with old butter, and remnants of candied popcorns that are clearly no longer being stocked. There are flies in empty cabinets mixed among stale, ancient looking popcorn. The screens for the menu are covered grossly with oil from the popcorn machines below, these do not seem to see any cleaning. The cashier wasn't rude, but she wasn't cheery or excitable either. Just existing and doing the bare minimum. I imagine she hates being surrounded by such a state of affairs.
We order two tickets for The Little Mermaid, she says "it's in 3d, is that okay?" We didn't know any better and said 'thats fine, thanks." We got our 3d glasses and went in.
18 dollars each to enter this film by the way.
We didn't order any concessions as it looked gross. I overheard a mother of some kids complain about dirty cups at the soda machine and she asked for a new one.
Gross.
Entering into the theater itself, the chairs are painful. Like, the upper back is moon shaped, doesn't fit all sizes of people very well. No way to adjust them either.
The floors were sticky, my shoes clicked walking across this sticky floor. When the movie finished, and the lights came on, you could see the hundreds of streaks of soda and old popcorn caked to the ground. Disgusting!
On top of all that, the 3d glasses didn't work. It changed nothing about the double vision and blur on the screen from the 3d effects. Fortunately it's just the little mermaid so you could tell what was going on anyway. But what was supposed to be a technological wonder, was a headache.
In all, this theater is atrocious, disgusting, rude, and in desperate need...
Read moreThis theater came to Statesboro replacing Carmike Cinemas and hasn't done a great job. First, patrons were used to being able to ride through and easily see the movie times, but as the AMC manager states it is THEIR POLICY to only post times in the building or on line. There went convenience for our elder patrons whom are not always computer saavy and or may have some physical disability who must now park and get out and walk into the building or the ticket window just to check on a movie time for later. My mom and I used to go every Tuesday under Carmike for the popcorn and drink and candy specials and so did loads of others, but good ole AMC has done away with those deals. Sure they have a 4pm matinee price, but the head kicker is that they will start the movie you want to see at 3:50 and wont let you have the 4:00 matinee price either! Why? Because even though you and I both know that a 3:50 movie will be showing only previews til way after 4 and so it is really a 4:00 movie, the folks at AMC will tell you it is full price anyway because it "Starts at 3:50 not at 4:00!" Saturday Night Lives Church Lady of the 90's would have said, "Well, how convenient. . . " Yeah, for AMC! Better yet, they will have 1 showing of a popular movie at 6:30p only insuring you will pay the highest price. (I encourage to research their various prices based on various times) Oh how convenient, no matinee prices on the latest shows. Not to mention that they haven't remodeled a thing under this new company. Rugs are dirty, outside mat is ripped away and gets slippery, some seats are still broken having jagged pieces and missing arms, the landscaping has not been kept up, the ticket, concession, and food prices are inflated and they have the audacity to still operate with Carmike's name still on the building for more than 6 months. They got 2 stars because of friendly staff. They loss the other 3 for inconvenient policies, no outside signs depicting movie times, and poor upkeep of the building and property and for not having their own sign on the premises, just the previous theater's sign. Is that even legal? Without changes, they will see a continued drop in patronage which is unfortunate because that theater WAS a nice place to go...
