I am so sad to have to leave this review. I have gone to this toy store for years. It's always on our list of stops when we take the hour trip to mystic. I think it's important to say that I have NEVER had an experience anywhere in mystic especially this store in all the years I've gone. Today my son and I decided to take the trip to mystic specifically for him to look at the toy store and to get a donut. Immediately upon entering the store a woman requested we put our masks on. As someone who wore a mask the entire time we were required without issue I excitedly announced I was vaccinated and no longer needed to wear one according to the state of CT. I never thought that was going to cause an issue but apparently toy it did. She bluntly told me she didn't care and said it was her store and her choice to make. At this point I was so taken back and I'm not one that handles confrontation well so I started stuttering and stammering asking if she was refusing us service she answered with "nope" you need to wear a mask. At this point we left. My sin and I sat outside for a minute while I tried to explain why we weren't allowed in. Again I feel its important to say that this has nothing to.do with me not wanting to wear my mask I wore it the entire time I was required without issue but because of the recent push for vaccines I thought we were in the clear so the problem was I truly didn't have one.. I even offered to show my proof of vaccination and she ignored me. There was another family outside that witnessed everything and told us we were within our rights to go back in so we did. At this point I started recording just incase and made sure she was aware the second that record button was hit and others were with me her whole tune changed she sarcastically asked us if she could help us with anything to which I replied we were all set but thank you then she began talking really loudly about the whole thing with another parent and child as if we weren't right there to hear. Bottom line here is I'm not sure if this was the owner or just simply someone who worked there but I have never been treated so poorly or been so embarrassed just by trying to make memories with my son. I'm so sad that this is what our...
Read moreI shopped at this store yesterday in Old Mystic Village and could not have had a better experience. This toy shop is quintessential toy shopping perfection (and the owner who happened to be working the front during my visit was so incredibly kind and helpful). I know what a hard time this is for everyone during this pandemic and the Toy Soldier is doing an amazing job at continuing to provide this charming store for kids (and kids at heart ;) such as myself) while doing their due diligence keeping the customers and employees safe following recommended masking and distancing guidelines. It gave me such peace of mind shopping there knowing they are taking every precaution available to assure my visit is a safe one (I am a RN (that works part time caring for very sick and compromised children on respiratory ventilators) as well as a homeschooling mother to two little boys (one with a rare autoimmune disorder) so I take this business' care very personally and am filled with gratitude. We are also a military family 9 months into my husband's 1 year over seas deployment so to say that my Christmas shopping time this season is small and valuable would be a huge understatement... my trip to the Toy Soldier could not have been more lovely and my time and money well spent. I will forever be a supporting customer of this great establishment. Thank you for all that you do for our community and keeping the magic of the toy soldier alive and a safe place to shop during this pandemic. My family (and my patients families)...
Read moreMy families experience in this store is similar to the other negative reviews. The women was not nice followed us around the store, my 2 year old son loves trucks but apparently you are not allowed to touch the toys she walked over and removed toys from his hands and proceeded to say you do not want to break the toys then you would have to buy them and people don’t want to buy broken toys. She started off by trying to show us a book oh this is nice and durable you should buy this it’s great. Sorry lady I will not give you a cent of my money. My son was picking out what truck he wanted. If you do not want kids to touch the toys do not have a toy store geared towards kids. These people are in the wrong business. Open an adult only store not A TOY STORE. I’m a strong supporter of small businesses but not someone that treats...
